Catch Report 1-8 May 2012 by fishery manager, Chay Jackson

Main Lake
Well there is only one place to start this week and that is the capture of this magnificent 40lb 2oz Mirror by Celtic tackle proprietor Mark Slade. The fish, and unknown specimen in the 42 acre water, was taken after a last minute change of personal circumstances allowed Mark to do a quick overnighter, Mark said “I had been watching a few fish right in the corner of the lake by the sailing club for the last couple of days and I was desperate to get on them to be honest, but for various reasons I couldn’t, but a last minute change of circumstances yesterday allowed me to do a quick overnighter and the fish came at around 10pm, Chay (Fishery manager) didn’t believe me how big it was and refused to come out to take pictures at first!” Fishery manager Chay Jackson was not that surprised by the capture “There have always been rumours of some big fish and to be honest I didn’t really pay much attention, I tend to go on what has actually been caught, but I had seen fish that looked proper lumps so I wasn’t totally surprised when it weighed has heavy as it did, having said that I was still pretty shocked! Mark really deserves it to; he has put in more nights than anyone so this was well deserved” Mark had already had a 19lb Common prior to the big one.

Mirror Carp

Staying with Carp venue regular Philip Young of Leicester landed a 21lb Mirror and a decent Bream from peg 1, Philip was using a tigernut fished over particles towards a sunken tree to catch his fish.

The rest of the fishing has been a washout to be honest after recent floods had reduced the pit to chocolate and it has taken until now for the water to start getting back to normal. There has been the odd Tench caught from the backwaters and Zander to 9lb but with levels now returning to normal fishing will start picking up.

Boys Pit
The boys pit has been unfishable due to flooding, although it is now re-opened as normal.
