Young schoolchildren and teachers can now learn about the life of a riverkeeper thanks to The Countryside Alliance Foundation which has collaborated with EdComs, the award-winning education company, to bring a major online educational resource to 7-11 year olds focusing on the countryside. The ground-breaking resource has been mailed to all 23,000 primary schools in England and Wales.

The exciting new free-to-use website www.countrysideinvestigators.org.uk enables students to watch, listen and learn alongside ‘countryside investigators’ Felix and Milo whilst they explore the countryside and meet some of the people who work there, including farmers, gamekeepers, country estate managers and riverkeepers.

Covering a wide range of countryside issues, Countryside Investigators contains real video footage, online interactive games and comprehension quizzes and can be used as part of an ongoing project or to illustrate a single lesson. The site is packed full of teacher resources supporting the delivery of Geography and Citizenship lessons as well as linking to a wide range of other subjects in England and Wales, encouraging numeracy, creative writing, art and design, ICT skills and working both independently and in groups

Roger Wilson, chief executive of The Countryside Alliance Foundation said: “We’re a brand new charity working alongside the Countryside Alliance and we’ve gone in feet first with a six-figure investment because we feel so passionately about educating the next generation on countryside issues. I am delighted that primary school children in towns, cities, villages and hamlets will have access to this free-to-use resource which will help teachers give their pupils an accurate glimpse of life in the British countryside.”
