News release from the Countryside Alliance Foundation

Exploring The Great Outdoors

On Tuesday 10 August, 2010, the second Fishy Facts and Water Worlds Day will take place at Upper Bittell Reservoir, Cofton Hackett, near Birmingham, between 9.00 am and 3.30 pm.  Youngsters aged 7 – 15 will be given the chance to explore the countryside, learn about waterways, the animals which live there and take part in some angling, falconry and ferreting.

This exclusive day of outdoor activity will enable youngsters to get hands on experience of the various fishing disciplines, including fly casting, fly dressing and coarse fishing. They will also have an opportunity to learn about falconry and ferrets, find out about the impact waterways have on the environment, the threat that pollution poses and what can be done to keep our waterways healthy, whilst exploring the links fishing has with conservation.

Clare Rowson, Spokesperson for the Countryside Alliance Foundation said: “The aim of the Fishy Facts and Water Worlds Day is to offer children the opportunity to experience the countryside and waterways and enhance their appreciation of the environment and its people. The countryside is for everyone, we all love it and there are lots of things to do there. We want to be able to help youngsters understand the fun they can have outside in the fresh air.

“The day will also go some way to help educate the children in subjects relating to the conservation, protection and enjoyment of the countryside and waterways.”

A team of instructors will be accompanying the children along with at least one team leader per group, protective equipment will be provided where necessary. Wet weather gear and sensible shoes should be worn.

Numbers are limited and there is a request for a £10.00 donation per child to cover the cost of equipment.  Advance booking only will grant a place. Book as soon as possible by telephoning Clare Rowson on 07900 820 819 or emailing: clare@ca-foundation.org
