The UK’s fastest growing outdoor retailer, GO Outdoors (www.gooutdoors.co.uk), is to open five new superstores in Scotland in the next two years.

The expansion will generate more than 200 new Scottish retail jobs, beginning in March with its second Scottish superstore in Clydebank.

GO Outdoors in Clydebank will be located on the site formerly occupied by Megabowl on Livingstone Street creating more than 40 new retail jobs. It will become the national outdoor retail chain’s 20th UK store.

In addition to the new superstore in Clydebank, the Sheffield-based company is targeting two more openings in the Glasgow area; one in Edinburgh; and, one in Aberdeen.

GO Outdoors already operates Scotland’s largest outdoor superstore in Coatbridge. The 70,000 square feet store opened in 2007.

GO Outdoors managing director John Graham said,
“Scotland has huge strategic importance for GO Outdoors. Our superstore in Coatbridge has been a huge success since it opened just over two years ago. And we are confident that our next five stores in Scotland will be just as popular.

“We’re proud to be retailing in Scotland. It’s an irresistible location for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Scotland has a wealth of active angling, camping, walking, caravanning, cycling and climbing communities as passionate about outdoor pursuits as we are.”. That’s a great combination.

“The new five-store plan for Scotland brings the pace of expansion into line with our rapid growth south of the border.”

Just under 12 months ago GO Outdoors revealed plans for 19 new store openings – operating a total of 30 superstores – throughout the UK by 2011 creating 1000 new jobs.

New store openings in Wolverhampton and Bristol have been quickly followed since the announcement by seven more stores in Stockton-on-Tees, Pudsey, Harlow, Basildon, Cardiff, Basingstoke and Newcastle.

More English store openings are planned over the next two years.
