Golden Balls Fishing Charity News Release

Decathlon Store Lakeside held a successful fishing match in aid of Cancer Research UK at North Benfleet Hall Fishing Lake on Sunday, 10th April, 2011 with 33 anglers taking part.  Over £3,200 was raised and between them, the anglers caught a total weight of 450lb fish.

It was a bright sunny day with a slight Easterly wind.  The draw was made with the top fundraiser choosing the first swim and the whistle indicating the start of the match was sounded at 10 am. 

The event was advertised as a Fun Match and everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves.   Two rods were allowed and it was the individual’s choice how they would fish.   Everyone took a break between 1 and 2pm and the 6 hour match whistle sounded at 5pm.    All the anglers waited for Glenn Gateson to announce the results.   Wayne Gateson awarded the trophies.
Coming in 1st place with an overall catch of 63lb 3oz was Andy Ruggles.   Following in 2nd place was Jay Johnson with 40lb and Del Sturrock came in 3rd with a respectable 38lb 14oz.

Amanda Brittan steamed into 1st place in the Ladies section with 12lb 4oz and Diane Parish followed up with 3lb 6oz.

The Junior section was won by Kane Sutton catching 8lb 8oz.   His friend Josh Hofford was close behind in 2nd place with 7lb 9oz and young Reece Clark came in 3rd with 6lbs.

Trophy for the largest carp at 12lb 15oz went to George Shoebridge,  while Terry Swift received his trophy for the largest silver, a 4lb 7oz Ide.
