The Hardy & Greys stand at Go Fishing proved to be a very lucky destination for one visitor.

Following a trip to this year’s event at the NEC Brian Hartshorn, from Kenilworth in Warwickshire, found out that he was the winner of the Hardy & Greys Go Fishing prize draw.

The competition gave show visitors the chance to win £600 worth of innovative tackle for the start of the season. Those who registered to go on the company mailing list were put into a draw to win the chance to choose items from the Alnwick-based firm’s impressive range of hundreds of Hardy, Greys, Chub and Fishpond products.

Brian, 56, chose, amongst other things, a Greyflex M2 Fly Rod, a Prodigy Carp Rod, a pair of GRX Breathable Waders and a pair of GRX Wading Boots.

He said: “This was my first visit to Go Fishing so I cannot believe how lucky I was! I have only returned to fishing in the last few years and I still do not have enough of the right tackle, which is why I went to the show.

“The Hardy and Greys stand was recommended to me by one of the professionals at the show so I went to have a look at their new G-TEC rods.

Brian, who worked in the Gas industry and retired in 2003 added: “After the show, when I heard that I had won the prize draw, I immediately thought of the Greyflex fly rod as game fishing is my new passion and the M2 is perfect for an ‘improver’ like myself!
“It was really nice to be offered the chance to get hold of some of the latest equipment.â”

A keen angler as a young man, Brian took to coarse fishing until other interests, including work commitments took over. “When I found more time to enjoy hobbies, I decided to try game fishing and have been trout fishing on local stillwaters and salmon fishing in Ireland,” he said.

“I like to fish during the week as it is quieter and I always put my rods in my car if we are travelling, just in case!’

Brian visited the team at Alnwick to collect his prize and to look round the museum to see how fishing has changed over the years.

Ian McCormack, Commercial Director of Hardy & Greys said: “We were very encouraged by the level of interest in our products at the Go Fishing Show and it is always a pleasure awarding prizes to the lucky recipients. We hope Brian enjoys many days fishing with his new Hardy tackle.â”
