Hardy and Greys is promising “the complete outfit” to the young winners of its sponsored competitions at this year’s CLA Game Fair.

For the past five years, the world-renowned tackle company has demonstrated its support for those at the grass roots of angling by sponsoring the Greys UK Youth Open Trout Distance Championship and the Hardy UK Youth Open Salmon Distance Championship.

For Harewood, it has pledged even greater backing by putting up a matching rod, reel and line for the winner of each category. The winners of the Trout Championship will receive a Greys G-Tec outfit and runners up will receive a Greys G-Tec rod for second place and a Greys G-Tec reel for third.

The winners of the Salmon Competition are to be given a Greys G Series 15′ salmon outfit with the second place being awarded a Greys G Series 13′ rod. The prize for third place will be a Greys GRXiR911 reel.

Commercial Director Ian McCormack said this was a major step up in Hardy and Greys’ sponsorship.

“The level of prizes is hugely increased over last year as the intention is that the main prize winners in each category will walk away with a complete outfit,” he added. “By doing this, we are focusing on the prime need in our sport today – to encourage more young people into fishing.”

Hardy and Greys will once again have a major presence at the show, with a stand at the very heart of Fishermans Row. It is there that visitors will be able to meet the Northumbrian firm’s newest addition to its team – internationally renowned angling instructor and fly fisherman Charles Jardine.
In accepting his consultancy role, the accomplished artist, writer and creative fly tier has fulfilled a lifelong ambition to work for the company whose catalogues he grew up reading and whose tackle he used as a boy when salmon fishing with his father.

The Hardy and Greys stand is also the place to go to see its full range of tackle, clothing and accessories plus meet other experts giving tips and reporting on the very latest up-dates on the fast-growing sectors of saltwater flyfishing and ‘destination’ fishing as well as attend Chris Ogborne’s knots and leaders clinics.

“Over the years, Hardy and Greys has gained a reputation for being one of the most ‘approachable’ stands at the Fair,” said Ian McCormack.

“We are emphatically not there just to sell tackle, as we’re equally delighted when anglers come to us to discuss a problem with their casting, their techniques or simply to talk fishing. Our experts are on hand throughout the fair to offer advice on all aspects of the game, presenting a unique opportunity for anglers to talk with the best team in the business.”

Also at the Fair, members of the Hardy and Greys Academy will be involved with the formal training programme managed by the Salmon and Trout Association. For a nominal fee, visitors to the show will be able to book a place on as many sessions as they like – one of which will be designed especially for young people – and receive tuition and tips from some of the country’s top coaches.
