Cliff Johnston & Paul Little

Ladies Fishing are pleased to announce the appointments of Cliff Johnston and Paul Little as coaches.

Cliff Johnston recently retired is to become the full time coach for ladies fishing in the North East of England. For over 50 years Cliff has been involved in education lecturing BA’s in Education through to Post Graduate Level at Durham University, specialising in primary education in particular the sciences. He enjoys all aspects of fishing from coarse, sea and game, including competition coarse fishing. He is a GAIA qualified instructor, involved in coaching with the ADB.

He is on the board of Bishop Auckland Angling Club, Witton Castle Lakes. He runs the BAAC junior club at Witton Castle, and even has time to be the treasurer of the Northumberland Branch of The Salmon and Trout Association, along with other charitable interests. A qualified entomologist he is a co-ordinator working on the Wear River Fly Survey.  

Paul Little is world recognised as a Classic Atlantic Salmon Fly specialist. He has fished in many parts of the world, including Alaska where he caught all species of pacific salmon. He’s just returned from a trip to Argentina fishing the Rio Grandes for sea trout on the fly.  Paul loves pike fishing and can think of nothing better than using his favourite reel the Nautilus No8 anodized in purple on a Scott X2S 9ft 8#, his biggest pike on the fly is 17lb. He is an AAPGAI Master in Fly Dressing, Double and Single handed disciplines, and is a senior assessor for AAPGAI.

Paul said “I’m honoured to have been asked by Trish and Anne to become the fly tying coach. They organise a variety of events and I look forward to helping with fly tying and river days for salmon and sea trout. As far as I’m aware this is the only ladies group in the UK that meets regularly to tie flies”

Paul will be coordinating new events for 2010 in Cumbria with Anne, whilst Cliff will be working with Trish on events in the North East and Scottish Borders.

Both Cliff and Paul’s knowledge and experience can only benefit/enhance the ladies events in 2010 and beyond.

Paul and Cliff will be involved in the events organised by ladies fishing to raise money for Casting For Recovery 8th & 9th May.
