Weekly report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area sponsored by Starmer Baits, Nash Bait & Nash TT

Luke Smith fished North House Lake on Saturday and was rewarded with a mid morning 20lb 1oz mirror. On the same venue John Mansell landed a 15lb 5oz common.

On the adjacent South Lagoon Lee Edmans banked a 20lb common. Fishing peg 1 Chris Bartlett had a 15lb 4oz pike while Emma Scarf managed a specimen 7lb tench, and Andy Wilkinson an 8lb 8oz bream. Plenty of tench are being caught from the Lagoon between 4-5lb with big bream to the night anglers. Anglers spinning for pike have had some success but mostly jacks up to 6lb from the margins. Nearby on the River Great Ouse chevin specialist Alan Wilkie again landed a specimen chub of 6lb 2oz.

PerchIan Waller fished a short session on the Grand Union Canal and came up trumps with three perch over 2lb the best at 2lb 9oz. Ian sent me a picture of his largest perch which was taken on lush damp grass so no harm was done to the perch. I have since heard that other anglers fishing the same section this week have had lots more 2lb+ perch and even a rare canal tench of 2lb+ with roach of 1lb+. Also on the canal Danny Smith fished a short session landing three carp with the best two at 17lb and 16lb 3oz. Successful bait was The Plums from Fishing Wizard with both pop ups and glugged bottom baits scoring.

At Beckerings Reservoir its been slow this week with only Mark Ridgeway having any sort of success with seven carp to 18lb early in the week and Neil McRobert managed one of 13lb.

Saturdays work party took place on the river at Biddenham. A very good turn out with 13 members and club officers attending. Replacement of rotten timbers to the bridge went according to plan. Some branch cutting and hole filling was done but repairs to the generator were however a bit of a failure.

A couple of tea breaks organised by Jo, the weather was good and with joviality all round it made for a great day, many thanks to all involved. The next workparty is scheduled for Saturday 3rd April 2011 at North House Lake and the river.

The Fisheries Management is in great need of spades, shovels, forks, brooms, rakes, digging spoons for posts, post wackers, sledge hammers and wheelbarrows, any tools are gratefully received. This shortage was brought about by the theft of virtually every single piece of equipment the Club owned when the Tingrith container was broken into last autumn.

Tools can be collected by calling David on 01582-413035 or bring any tools you have spare to the AGM which is being held on Thursday 24th March 2011 at 8pm at the Luton Airport Social Club Proctor Way Luton. There is ample free parking and a fully licensed bar.

British Waterways have asked for 3 or 4 volunteer members to dig 4 post holes for steel posts for some new signs at Slapton which should be of benefit to anglers. This will qualify for the work party exemption and the club is looking to complete the work on a Saturday morning from 19th March onwards. Volunteers should contact David Edwards on 01582-728114 to discuss availability.

The club is looking for anybody in the Wyboston area that has any brick rubble. Could they leave it on the grass by the car park or contact one of the Bailiffs on the Wyboston Complex to arrange delivery. The rubble is needed by 3rd April 2011 to help backfill the sleeper retainers in the disabled swims.

Anglers fishing the canal on Saturday 19th March 2011 should avoid the area between Lock 27 Leighton Lock and the Black Bridge as there is a Gocycle Challenge event taking place between 10am & 11am.

The March photo competition winner will have the choice of 10kg of the new Starmer Baits Coconut Fish boilies or nearly £100 worth of Nash IC-1 and Nash Terminal Tackle. So get snapping and forward your pictures to our usual email address catchreports@lutonac.org or send from your mobile to 07704462635.
