This event has truly come of age and Competition organiser, renowned Fly fisher and Hardy & Greys Product Consultant, John Horsey was quick to point out;
“As Championship Manager I have strived to secure the best sponsors for this important competition. Lexus are regarded as the top luxury car brand and Hardy & Greys as similarly, top in the sphere of fly fishing brands. This says it all really.”

Horsey was adamant that no Trout should be stocked over the previous three weeks, to ensure that the most versatile anglers succeeded in the calm and bright conditions that greeted the final.
During the competition, the anglers showed their mastery by catching 257 fish – the biggest bag weighed secured by Richard Slater weighed in at 17lb 7oz.

Richard Slater, a previous champion in 2004 at the Rutland finally said in receiving this top award:
“I normally don’t do well on Chew Valley. But thanks to a really thorough practise, I managed to master the water and the bright conditions. I am over the moon at winning the competition and thank Hardy & Greys for their support.”

Richard in wining gets the keys to a Lexus RX 400 Hybrid car worth over £48,000 plus the champion’s trophy, a gold medal, Hardy Demon products and Maui Jim eyewear.
In conclusion, John Horsey said: “I am already looking forward to another great competition in 2009. I am certain this impressive fly fishing event will be able to attract even more anglers from an ever growing number of nations; we are truly international now!”
