SALMON & TROUT ASSOCIATION NEWS RELEASE
The Salmon & Trout Association (S&TA) has now been appointed a Full Member of Wildlife & Countryside Link, thus making it the only organisation primarily supported by anglers to hold Full membership status within this influential environmental umbrella body. S&TA has been an Associate member for the past two years, playing a full part in the highly successful Blueprint for Water campaign. Now that it is a Full Member, and the only one of two to represent fisheries interests, it is the intention to involve the S&TA Science Department as much as possible to help further the work of Link’s Water Group, which includes the continuing work of the Blueprint for Water.
Wildlife and Countryside Link is an umbrella body, whose purpose is to bring together voluntary organisations in the UK to protect and enhance wildlife, landscape and the marine environment. It currently has 38 members who collectively enjoy the support of approximately 8.4 million people in the UK, all united by their common interest in the conservation and enjoyment of the natural and historic environment.
S&TA CEO, Paul Knight, declares, “We are delighted to have achieved Full membership status with Link, which places us alongside such highly respected charities as WWF, RSPB, Association of River Trusts and many others. Working with such partners on areas of common concern to ensure that the environmental voice is clearly heard at policy decision level represents the potential for real influence, and gives added weight to the influencing work we carry out on behalf of the S&TA membership to protect and conserve the aquatic environment and its dependent species.
He adds, “We have played a central role within the highly successful Blueprint for Water campaign, but much still needs to be done to ensure the health of our rivers and stillwaters – the lifeblood for sustainable fish populations; one of S&TA’s main objectives.”
