Fishery report – 16th May, 2010

Trout fishing
Some great hatches have come off both lakes this week, hawthorn flies have been blown on to the water creating some cracking rises from fish on both morning and late evenings. Fishing has been challenging at times with the bright sun and strong easterly winds throughout the week, as the water is gin clear the trout have shyed away during the brightest periods of the day. De-weeding will be taking place on the Swan Neck Pool on Tuesday 18th May. Meaning that the lake will be closed for the day, the work that’s going to be done is sure to stir up the lake, leaving the lake coloured up. This will certainly produce some good sport for the following week. Regular angler Jim Johnson as visited Seighford a few times during the week, catching over his visits a total of 23 fish. His best fish was just over 6lb. He’s caught his fish on a variety of flies, all fished on a floating line. His prefered fly of the week has been a Grey Duster taking over half his haul on this particular fly.! Stoke based angler Tony Wally enjoyed a good days fishing on Saturday, he caught 8 fish all on dries, he changed between a Grey Duster and a Red Cull to take his fish, He had his catch off the Railway Pool.

Coarse Fishing
THE OLD POOL WILL BE CLOSED SUNDAY 23RD MAY, due to a club booking. The lake will be available for fishing after 2.00pm at a discounted price of £5. The Old Pool has fished its head off all week. Alan Bryant had a cracking days fishing on peg 20. He had a stunning Common Carp weighing 16lb 5oz. He took this lump on a single red maggot fished 5 meters out against the lillies. It took him over 20 minutes to land as he was only using light gear (3lb hook length). Roger Abnett had a great pleasure session on peg 2 on Sunday. He fished two pole lines, one in the margin to his right underneath a over hanging tree and his other was 15 meters straight out in front of him, action started from the off, within his first 10 minutes he had landed 3 Carp and lost 2. He finished his day on roughly 70lb, having 2 bonus tench between 4-5lb each, also a bream tipping the scales at 7lb. Roger caught all his fish on pellet and paste, he also lose fed 1kg of fishery pellet. We do welcome C! lub matches on the Old Pool. We can cater for up to 22 anglers.
