Trout & Coarse Fishing In Staffordshire – Report by Phil Dixon

Trout Fishing
To keep the fishing at a good level, more fish were trickled into both lakes this week. A small stocking of 25 fish went into each lake back end of this week. Good sport came shortly after the fish going in. Rensso returned again this week after his large fish last week of 11lb 10oz. Rens didn’t manage to land another double but ended up catching fish up to 8lb. He took 7 fish on Friday on a black and green lure over both lakes. Tony Winfield and his mate Bob Pritchard both from Cannock ventured up on Saturday. They both took 8 fish a piece within 5 hours, with neither or them having a fish under 4lb. Their best fish of the day was 6lb. Tony and Bob took all there fish from the Railway Pool, the spot just over the bridge. Olive Damsels fished on a floating line with a fast retrieve proved the method of the day.
Best fish of the week was caught by Julian Thomas, who traveled all the way from Spain for a days fishing at Seighford Lakes, he was rewarded with a fully finned 10lb 6oz Rainbow Trout, he took the fish on a black and green lure. Julian finished his day on 4 fish.

Coarse Fishing
Fishing on the Old Pool has really picked up this week with 30lb+ mixed bags of fish being common. Dave Powell of Premier Anglers fished peg 20 on Saturday, he battled with the wind to fish out at 13 meters using pellet. Dave had Carp to 5lb and a bonus Tench of 5lb 8oz. He finished the day on 37lb. Keep nets are available for hire from the lodge at a cost of £1 per net. If interested ask when purchasing your day ticket for more details. Best pegs at the moment are 1,2,4,5,7, and any pegs from 16-22. The fish have spread out a lot more over the past week. With some good bags of fish coming off all over the pool. There are still a lot of fish out on the shallow bar reed side of the island. A small cage feeder tight up against the island off most pegs is certainly worth a try.
