Coarse & Trout Fishing In Staffordshire – Report by Phil Dixon

Trout Fishing
The sport on the two trout lakes has been fantastic this week with a variety of methods working and lots of anglers catching.  Floaters and Intermidate lines have taken fish with lures on, from a black/green, Cats Whisker, Olive and also Apps bloodworm.  As the fishing slows down during the middle of the day Buzzers and small nymphes under the Indicator has been working well which Vince Aronica and Ian Bennett proved by taking 24 fish between them up to 7lb.  It has been a good week for big fish as Renso Delrosso finally caught a double figure trout which he has been after for 5 years of fly fishing.  Ren’s from Derby tempted the fish on a Sinking line and a White Minkie in the far corner of the Railway Pool The fully finned rainbow weighed 11lb 10ozs cracking fish and well done;  Ray Jeffery’s also took an 11lb fish with plenty of anglers catching lots of fish 6lb plus.  If you’re are after a Personal Best trout then Seighford is the place for you.

Coarse Fishing
Finally, with the weather and the water warming up, the fish have started to really feed all over the lake.  Nigel Evans fished peg 12 at 9 meters with Maggots, to tempt a fine mixed bag of fish which weighed around the 40lb mark.  Lots of carp have been showing all around the Island and in the middle of the lake down the far end.  Local angler Brian Watkins fished from peg 4 solely after the carp,  Brian fished one rod tight to the Island on Lunchenmeat with the other fished in open water with pepperami both with pva bags attached with pellets, after a hectic day and having two rods scream off at once Brian ended the day on 23 carp up to 5lb and 4 trout showing that the fishing is really picking up.  The first Tench of the season was also landed this week caught by Ken Morton which weighed 5lb 4oz.  The Horseshoe has produced some nice bags of silvers which were stocked this year, now with the lines over the Horseshoe lake the cormarants will stay off and the fishing will remain good.  Hopefully see you soon on the banks.
