Fishery report – week ending 15th August, 2010

Trout Fishing
The Trout fishing has been hard work this week, with the weather up and down and harsh gusts of wind its been challenging to say the least. Small bags of fish are still being caught and at a good average weight. Weed work has taken place and more work is still to be done in the following week. A stocking of fish will be going in end of this week (Thur or Fri) so good sport is certainly on the cards for the weekend. Swan Neck Pool will be the only lake to receive a stocking as the Railway Pool still has a fair amount of weed in it. The fish will average at around the 3/4lb mark with some bonus fish being slipped in to keep the big fish hunters interested. Best flies this week have been Buzzers, small CDC’s and sub-merged daddies all fished on a floating line. Best fish this week goes to regular angler Jim Johnson, the Cannock based angler returned a fish of 10lb 8oz. Cracking fish!

Paul Pritchard from Stafford had a fantastic days sport on peg 22. He fished a Cage feeder straight out infront of him to catch an estimated 70lb bag of Carp. Paul varied between Corn and Meat to catch his haul of fish which consisted of Carp between 3-5lb. Ian Davies also from Stafford had a decent day’s fishing on peg 21. Ian had a mixed bag of fish including Tench to 3lb, Carp to 7/8lb and Bream to 4lb. He fished his pole straight out infront of him at 10 meters using paste bought from the lodge. Mathew Tranter from Essex was up on holiday in Staffordshire this week, and what a week he had. The 6 year old school boy blasted his personal best weight with a scale perfect Common Carp pulling the needle on the scales round to 10lb 12oz. The young angler fished peg 8 on the Old Pool using a feeder and corn to tame the beast.
