Herefordshire based student David Williams, 21, has spent four weeks at the famous RK Leisure lake complex on work experience from the renowned Sparsholt College and has been fishing on Wraysbury 1’s North lake during his time off. David has caught quite a variety of quality carp in that short time with one particularly sought after specimen the pick of the bunch!

David, who had waited 7 days to set up in his chosen area of the lake where he thought the fish would be and when he finally did begin fishing, his tactics paid off quickly. During his second night fishing in his desired swim he caught his first fish of the trip, a 20lb 2oz Mirror carp. He re-cast his rod in the dark and at 6am the following morning he had another bite.

Not Mike’s Pet - 44lb 4oz CarpThe Mirror Carp affectionately known as ‘Not Mike’s Pet’ weighing a substantial 44lb 4oz was caught in the early hours of the freezing March morning and after an epic hour long battle to bring it to the bank. Dave said of the massive capture ‘My tactics were to target an area in the middle of the lake in the hope that the fish would seek the bait out after their winter slumber’. Dave also banked another six smaller carp to compliment this capture, all new fish that were stocked when RK Leisure took over the Cemex Angling Club waters back in 2012/2013.

RK Leisure’s historic Wraysbury 1 is fast becoming one of the most prolific day ticket waters in the country!
