Angling Trust News Release

The Angling Trust has announced the appointment of Tim Macpherson as its Head of Marketing and Communications.

Tim joined the organisation on March 16th, 2009, with a brief to head up the campaign to recruit 20,000 members for the Trust over the next year – and ultimately increase that to 100,000 by 2011. The Trust has already attracted over 11,000 members since its official launch in January. Tim will also head up a team lobbying and campaigning on environmental and angling issues affecting the organisations members.

Tim comes from a marketing and media background having worked for major publishing and events companies including EMAP (now Bauer). He has spent the last 9 years running his own marketing communications consultancy working with companies from a wide variety of business areas including television, retail and charities.

Tim is a passionate angler, a member of Bexhill Sea Angling Club and fishes across all disciplines and in many parts of the country. He owns his own sea fishing boat on the South coast. He is also active in marine conservation working to reduce the influence of commercial fishing both on government policy and fish stocks – something he feels particularly strongly about.

Commenting on his new appointment Tim said “I am really excited to be joining the Trust and looking forward to the enormous challenge we face in attracting over 100,000 members. There are 4m+ anglers in the UK and now the sport has one governing body it will be crucial as a singe voice representing anglers of all types. I have been a fishing nut since I was a boy and this is a dream job – combining knowledge & skills acquired both professionally and personally.”

Mark Lloyd chief executive of the Angling Trust comments: “A large part of the Angling Trust’s work will be to lobby government and other decision makers and to campaign on behalf of anglers. The appointment of Tim to this key post will enable us to be more effective in getting the organisation’s messages out to those that matter.

Tim will also have responsibility for ensuring that all our members know what the Trust is doing on their behalf.

We are delighted to have found someone with such a proven track record in marketing and communications and who is a passionate angler to boot.”
