Now that the Brown Trout fishing season is closed, the Rainbow Trout fishing Season comes into its own and it has started with a bang at Wellsfield Fishery!
The average weight at Wellsfield this week was 3lb 4oz as many 4-7lb fish were caught. All 3 lochans at Wellsfield Fishery fished very well for fly and bait fishing. Fly fishers caught most fish 2-6ft under the surface using floating or sink tip lines, counting the flies down. Bait anglers have found ledgered baits (powerbait and also maggots) with polystyrene balls most successful. Spinning using small mepps and taz’s also worked well.
It is good to see so many new anglers fish Wellsfield this week, from near and afar. The word must be spreading about the fishery and the quality and size of our fish.
Our staff are sad to hear of the sad and doleful news about one of our regular anglers Mr. Charlie Bow from Falkirk who died suddenly last week. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
FISH OF THE WEEK was a 10lb Rainbow Trout caught by M Barker (Stirling) from the top fly pond – Lochan Hearadh (see photo below).
