The Christmas Fishing Competition is this Saturday 23rd December with £100 1st Prize plus Turkeys and other prizes. There will also be a Boxing Day Bonanza Competition on 26th December also with £100 1st Prize plus other prizes. Both competitions start at 8.30am.
Anglers should note that Wellsfield Fishery is open all year as ice prevention wave machines are installed at the fishery.
All 3 lochans are fishing well with the dramatic change in water temperature this week. At the weekend 98% of anglers caught fish, and over 90% of them caught their fish limits. The average fish weight was 3lb 3oz and the quality of fish is exceptional at the moment.
Orange Fritz is the top fly at the moment, with Dancers and Sparklers also working well for fly fishers. For bait anglers Spiiners and Maggots were most successful.
Two specimen trout were caught this week – a cracking fin perfect rainbow of 12lb from the top fly pond for Mr Adams (Larbert) in his 5 for 25lb using lures and a fine 9lb rainbow for Mr Donaghy (Falkirk) in his 4 for 20lb using powerbait.
