Fishing report for week ending 5th August, 2012 – submitted by Anne Woodcock

Witton Castle Lakes welcome 68 anglers with a rod average of 2.3 have enjoyed some excellent sport.

Fishery officer John Renshaw reports: ‘Fish are still on and just below the surface. The daily weed cut is encouraging fish to feed. Mr Hamilton caught a 10lb rainbow and Mr Brenan a 4 1/2lb rainbow on East Lake.

Must-have flies in your box this week: Damsels, Olive ‘F’ flies, daddies, hare’s ear. Best method used floating line, long leader with a buzzer on the dropper.

The tagged fish still remains elusive and the prize total stands at £225, for the lucky angler who slips his net underneath it

Anglers can purchase day tickets for Bishop Auckland and District Angling club water on the River Wear from the fishery officers. Day tickets for July & August £30. Day tickets for September & October £40.
