Brit banks potential Ebro record-breaker!

Rising star Dan Sales has banked a potential world record roach that slammed the scales down to a colossal 4lb 7oz.

The heavyweight specimen fell during a trip to Dan’s favourite old haunts on Spain’s River Ebro – a waterway where he regularly runs guided trips.

Bait FactorySales – who this week signed a sponsorship with Bait Factory – is no stranger to the headlines having enjoyed a sensational run of big fish including giant perch,  bream to double-figures, chub and zander.

The current official world roach best under official IGFA rules stands at 4lb 1oz, although fish a few ounces bigger have been landed but never claimed.

Dan said: “I won’t be bothering to claim the record as I believe a fish of 5lb is possible. The river has incredible potential and 2lb-ers are commonplace.”

The roach was part of a haul that fell to feeder tactics, presented over a bed of pellets and sweetcorn.

Big Roach

Dan’s Top 5 Roach Tips:

  1. When targeting big Ebro roach, be prepared to feed heavily for if a big shoal arrives it needs to be stopped in its tracks. Prebaiting is key.
  2. Use baits like Bait Factory Apex Spod Particles as they’re loaded with goodies like hemp, maize and groats and it gives the fish something to graze on.
  3. The deep waters of the Ebro require a solid plastic feeder, as opposed to a caged variety, as a feeder with less holes will ensure the bait gets to the river bed without breaking up.
  4. If you’re introducing feed by groundbaiting, make sure it’s a heavy mix loaded with particle. Bait Factory Method Groundbait tubs are ideal.
  5. Year-classes of fish tend to swim together – if you land a 4lb-er another fish of the same size, or even bigger, could fall next cast. Be on your guard.
