John Wilson has probably forgotten more about angling than most of us will ever know in the first place. It’s a good job, in that case, that John Wilson’s 1001 Top Angling Tips was put into print!

John’s experience and depth of knowledge is phenomenal – he epitomises the term “all-rounder”. In fact, he takes it one step further – not only is he an all rounder in UK species terms, but he’s also fished all around the world! It’s enough to turn a guy like me green with envy!

This hardbook book is a larger format than most books, which gives the opportunity inside to lay the text out in three columns per page, rather than just reading all the way from left to right. That will probably make more sense when you see the book!

The content is split into numerous chapters, i.e. Saltwater Boat Fishing, Freshwater Baits, etc., and each chapter consists of many numbered ‘tips’. A few of these tips will seem obvious to you, but that’s the way it works with tips….they’re always obvious if you already know them. For every one that you already know, they’ll be a thousand anglers out there who hadn’t thought of it. There may even be a few that you don’t agree with 100%, but that’s fishing – it’s not an exact science!

1001 Top Angling TipsMost anglers will probably jump straight to their favourite section of the book and start reading there. I don’t blame them, but it’s definitely worth reading the 207 pages from cover to cover, as you’ll be picking up little snippets of information along the way.

For a busy person who doesn’t have time to read for hours at a time, this book is ideal. You can spend as little as 20 seconds at a time reading it and still gain from the experience. There aren’t many books that will allow you to do that.

Obviously, the longer you’ve been fishing and the more you’ve learnt over the years, the less you’re actually going to benefit from a book of tips. To a beginner angler, this would be like a bible, but some older anglers may only glean the occasional bit of advice. With 1001 tips, though, there’s bound to be something in there for everyone. Even John Wilson probably reads it and benefits; after all, as I said in the opening paragraph, he’s probably forgotten more about angling than most of us will ever know!

John Wilson’s 1001 Top Angling Tips is published by Green Umbrella Publishing and has a cover price of £16.99. However, as you’re reading this on the internet, click here to check the latest offer price from Amazon.
