Perfect when the fish are having "having it off the top"!

If you’ve got kids of a certain age, or are a big kid yourself, chances are you’ve heard of SpongeBob Squarepants and you’ll be familiar with the line, “Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!”. Well, when you open the Pure Pineapple Floaters from Mistral Baits, it’s like somebody has evicted poor old SpongeBob, carefully demolished his house and repackaged it in convenient, angler-friendly tubs!

Of course, if you haven’t heard of SpongeBob Squarepants, the paragraph above will be meaningless, so I’d better grow up sharpish….

The Pure Pineapple Floaters are ready-prepared floating ‘dog biscuits’. As the name suggests, they have been infused with pineapple flavouring and smell good enough to eat!

To be honest, preparing biscuits isn’t the hardest job on earth, but there are so many times when you want some NOW and the moment can easily be missed. For example, I’ve often fished venues on a day when I thought it would be too windy for floaters, only to see carp on the surface. What are they feeding on? Usually the baits that the angler on the opposite bank has thrown in before thinking what way the wind was going. His loss, my gain! In this situation, instant baits are great.

These particular baits are quite pliable, yet tough enough to hook directly, should you require. Mistral claim that they’ll stay out for hours, but if the carp are having it off the top, I doubt you’ll be able to put that theory to the test. It won’t be long before the slurp of a big pair of lips leads to the frantic battle that is ‘surface carp fishing’!

Mistral Baits Ready-To-Use Pure Pineapple FloatersAs you can see from the picture here, they are also yellow in colour, so should be fairly visible. Personally, I’m not convinced that colour is a major issue in most light conditions, as it’s probably just the shadow and smell that fish home in on, but these may give you the edge if you’re floating a bait into the shadow of an overhanging tree, perhaps.

It’s also worth pointing out that, obviously, it’s not just carp that take floaters. I’ve used them as an example in this short review purely because they are the most common fish targeted by floating biscuits. Try them on the river and you’ll no doubt see a chub or ten!

If the idea of having a ready supply of floaters on hand appeals, check out the Mistral Baits website – you can visit the floater page by clicking here. As well as these pineapple ones, you can buy Strawberry Split, Tutti Frutti and Green Mussel.

Large 550ml tubs are £3.99 and well worth the price, in my opinion. You’re paying for a quality bait and convenience. Catch that first fish on them and they will have paid for themselves!
