How much are you prepared to pay for a pack of hooks?

 

It's the one item of tackle that I've always bought the best available. Even when I was a lad, and had a beach outfit that cost less than £40 complete, I had Kamasan hooks.

 

Mind you, what are those carp hooks that are a quid a piece? Don't know if I'd go that far.

I agree with Elton, good hooks are important so I buy the best. However, shop around as you'll often find the identical hook to the well-known ones in different packaging but at very much lower prices.

The going rate for hooks is about right, about £3.50 for ten equates to 70p per fish for me a small investment in a capture really considering it is the most important part of it all - although as Steve says shopping about usually finds the identical hook in the same packets - it's amazing how many names some of Ashima's patterns have.

 

The expensive hooks that Elton mentions are probably Owners - if I was fishing for the fish of a lifetime and one chance at a time , and the rig used this pattern I'd not hesitate to pay a pound per hook. A good freind of mine lost a carp in Canada about seven years ago (the biggest Bernie Haines had ever seen) due to a snapped hook, he has never forgetten that.......
