Hi Oliver. I am not a regular on Severals but fish it 3/4 times a year with varying success. The most frustrating part is that often the fish go bonkers just before dark when day ticket wallers have to leave. You can go as fine as you like without a bite and then as dark comes 12oz dace will take 7 maggots on a size 6 time after time.
My most successful day was 12 chub to 5.12 all on trotted bread. It has them up to 7lb, I've seen them. Use large 2/3swanshot float, evenly spaced with size 6 hook and large lumps of bread pinched on the hook. Feed squeezed stale mashed bread, upstream and trot down as far as you can with minimum 5lb line. If no bites change swims after half an hour and work downstream same line 3/4 across.
If the water is coloured, use 10 x full loaded bigfeeder, just down from the bridge, loads of hemp and maggots, leave for 1 hour, then fish 8lb line, size 8 hook / 6 maggots 1/3 way across. My friend caught 2 chub within 10 minutes both 5.13!!

If the river is well flooded over, buy a ticket for Kings stream, trotted bread or caster. Big Roach
Let us know how you get on.
