  1. Wouldn't it just be easier to explain to S Mac that things will change after 15 posts, (as I read somewhere else) and their posts will then appear straight away as does everyone elses.

just to close this post, i love this forum, everyone is great with some great helpful advice. as for the forum, some info on the 15 message rule would have been nice, as replies to post sometimes come 2 hours later, and can seem out of context, by the time you add it and some members add theres. but i do totally agree with the 15 post rule, keep the idiots out. but please moderators, explain this better.

many thanks to all, i have now reach 30 post and im enjoying all the advice i need from the more experience fisherman, im learning new ways, and new tackle as well as a little bit input on the things i know.

tight lines to every one and and 40lbers to all.

  2. my partner had her neice over for a few days, she went on her normal sites, but is now plagued with pop ups that pop up at random, can anyone give me some advice, i dont really want to reformat, she has alot of stuff on there, her own websites and stuff.

  3. Hi S mac

Ok here is what i take fishing and by the sound of it you do as much fishing as i do, Bearing in mind i have been carping for about 5 yrs i have built up must of what i need but for you i would suggest this

1 bivvy ( Nothing special unless you have money to spare but nothing to cheap)

2x carp rods & baitrunners, if you use three you have to upgrade on your EA fishing licesence

2 x bite alarms, 2xbite indicators, and 4 bank sticks ( unless you want to buy an expensive pod, i would`nt bother with a cheap one not worth it.

    1x carpbed

42" landing net & a good quality landing matt

Night: get a good head lamp, nothing worse than falling over your rod in the middle of the night and buzzers going off left right and centre

The rest is up to you things like tackle and alike i am sure you have a idea about.

In terms of piking, I guess you are going to use your carping gear, have done very little piking as you have to be sure about how to handle pike and I always go piking with some one who has at least a couple of years experience, there are guys on here that are great pikers and they would be the best to talk to. My only advice would be talk to them about piking. In terms of rods they will probably tell you to get a decent pair of carp rods and use them for both piking and carping.

Hope this helps, other people will probably cover things i have forgotten and alike

    Good luck s mac

as for the piking i was given the advice a while ago, about going with some one who knows. i will be fishing witha baliff from a local water.i agreed to supply his bait and he agreed to take and teach me. so not a bad swap lol. as i can get the bait for next to nothing.

taking on board what you said about the carp gear. the set i was looking at has, 2 rods, a bivvy, the chair come bed i guess. the bite alarms, indicatrors. just about what you said the kit i was looking at comes with.

the headlamp i still have from my sea fishing days.

  4. I started with one rod, one reel, one buzzer and then increased as I got more into it and could aford it. There's no rush to get all the gear so just take your time and build up as you need more bits. You will find you end up getting what you need rather than what you think you need and save yourself money in the long run.

    Rob.

    HI ROB

i agree with alot of what you have said, i dont get a great deal of time to go to the tackle shop as i work 6 days a week. when i know what bits i need i call my tackle shop who know me very well over the phone lol, i sort out what i need and then send one of my staff along to collect it..

i thought the carp set was a good idea because it would have given me what i needed. but reading your post and alot of the others. maybe i dont need it all.

so lets me put it this way to the thread. i want to carp fish and maybe pike fish in winter. fish nights when i can. and during the summer next year carp fish as well.

as i have never fished carp pike, or nights. can you give me an idea of what i would need to get started.

i look forward to hearing all your comments

    regards and 40lbers to all

  5. hi whitey, i have the leeda assassin11 pole 11meter and for the price i paid for it £89.00 i love it, it comes with a top 3 section and two top2 sections. ideal pole for the all round pleasure angler.

  6. I've got some bargains Browning 9.5 Pro Syntec Canal poles - RRP £75 plus delivery (we've seen tackle shops booting them out about £80 odd). Nice weight, less than 600g I think, and very strong - rated 14 which our general coarse anglers go for, but fished a section down with a high rated elastic (18) they'll take most carp you can throw at it.

How does £59.95 all in sound (that includes 24hr delivery, uk mainland only - not S/highlands).

hi there, if i was you, i would save the extra twenty and go for the leader assassin11. its an 11m pole, with 1 top 3 section and 2 top 2 sections, great for bigger fish venues.

was on another forum for a while and there was big debate about £2000 16m poles and the lesser poles. alot of people gave a great review about the assassin saying for the price its great.

hope this helps. PMed you because you know what the forum can be like, its great if you got the money. lol. im using the assassin and love it. had some lovely bream over a pound on the top 3 section on No4 elastic and pound and half hook length no problem. the top two sections are set up for carp waters. 12-14 elastic and 16-18 elastic. it gives you all you need for any waters.

let me know how you get on, as i love argos gear and the prices

i see it now now didi, looks like californian calamri if i spelt if right lol. thats good, i can get loads of that, for pennies.

thanks for pointing that out to me.

  8. i think the spade hooks are the way to go. i have the patients to tie hooks.. if its going to take me a couple of hours to learn to use a hook tier, i think i might give it a go learning to tie by hand first. i have time at work during the early part of the week. and it may come in handy on the bank side. the downfall bit is i dont know where to start tieing them, i mean how to tie them. has anyone got a good web site that has this info on tiening spade hooks. before i buy a tier.

    thanks

  9. hi kempo, just wondering why you think the argos stuff is not up to it, im only asking because i have been looking at the carp package, its just in my budget for a pleasure fisher. argos carp outfit i would be greatful for your advice before i think about a purchase

    regards

  10. i agree with kempo, but sometimes we have to, there prices are good. i have just bought the assassin11, 11m pole, and for the price i think its a good buy. with 1 top 3 section, and 2 top 2 sections. hope this helps whitey

  11. hi steve, new to this sort of fishing, read your post, and that you caught it on squid. can i ask what squid and size, i want to get into specimen fishing, carpe and pike through the winter, so im getting as much knowledge on baits as i can, i would be greatful if anyone can help. i can get my hands on loads of squid, sardines, mackerel. all that sort of thing at next to nothing prices.

  12. Hi all. i would like to start carp fishing, my money is tight ( isnt every ones ) have a carp rod now with 2.75 test curve. a couple of rod rest with bite alarm.

But reading through alot of your post from the more experience carp fisherman, i feel i am no where near what i should, on the tackle side and extras to serously give this ago.

as i said before, my money is tight as i have spent most of my budget on coarse fishing. due to the hours i work i dont have alot of time to go to tackle shops and buy as i go. how ever i have seen a complete set in argos for £249.00 argos carp set i would be grateful if you could give me an idea about this. is it worth the money and is it a good starter pack.

regards and tights lines to all

  13. just and idea, something i use on my pole to clean it right through inside every week. is a jet wash, i have a portable one for work, maybe try taking along to a garage and using there jet wash and try using it on the joint as someone pulls the other side, it maybe enough get push out the dirt and grit the may have got on it as well. jet wash it from the outside of the joint and not inside. its just a thought.

you could always report yourself...bottom of each post is a report post button...... mods will surely surface then.... :headhurt:

i would do that judy, but by the time my posts go to moderator and get on the board, its like the local paper, old news, hope this moderator check thing ends soon. i made a post and waited 2 hours for it to show on the board.

  15. Hi can someone tell me what the advantage or disadvatage is between spade hooks and eyed hooks. for light fising i just but the hooks to line. and where larger fish are about, i usually use eyed hooks and i can then choose my own breaking strain.

  16. I agree with what a lot of people have said, money is tight these days for alot of us. if the money side is a bit tight, have a look at argos, i know its not your tackle shop. but these days they are doing some great stuff at very good prices. they have some good 13' match rods and reels for around £40. carp rods for around the same, and 11m poles with two extra top sections for around £90. all these will give you what you need to fish most venues for pleasure.

  17. just going slightly off track from the topic, im new to this forum, and someone earlier mentioned the big brother thing. i have been on other forums as we probably all have. but every post comes up it will be checked by a moderator. while i agree with censorship to a degree. the delay in post going onto the board seems to take quite a while. i may come home from work around 7, going fishing in the morning, would like some advice, but by the time the post goes on the board i have often gone to bed, is this because im new to forum or does this happen to every one. many thanks
