I have one of those lights, but like the C-light I don't think it's that bright for use as a nav light. I use mine as a tent light.
I got myself one of these the 130cm plug works a treat but must have been a tired day but i drilled all the holes and then realised i had no hand access to that area inside the yak to tighten the nuts school boy error!!!! I managed to figure a work around though.

Cant you just have the rod holders installed at a distance for trolling or whatever and also have a rod holder base installed closer to you (so there are four positions you can use) so you can just move the rod holder when you need to.

I'm waiting for the summer, but if we do get snow.....I'm getting the sledge out!
The kayak could possibly make a great toboggan...

Ahhhhhhhhh. But Speciman and I do a pretty mean Welsh Spider crab, should go well with your sausages and Bacon, washed down with a fair few Stellas.Just the recipe for a home made rubby dubby bag whilst out fishing the next day.....Must remember to take my sea sicknesss pills

Hi Phil! lookin sharp mate
Whats the fish? (god, typical fisherman!!! a gorgeous young lady with you and I ask about the fish!!) what is it though ha ha?
Dave
Cheers Dave
The fish is a good ol barracuda. Only one of the day for me which was poor considering the location.
Phil, Can't you think of nothing better to do than sit chatting to a bunch of sad old gits on an internet forum?im 30 in april doesnt that qualify as an old git, certainly feels like it!!!!!!

Mostly local knowledge---if you want to know the marks you'll have to come with us next time.
Good plan, give us a shout next time your out.
-
Looks like some good fishing out there. As i live in Salisbury thats probably the closest bit of coast for me. Is it easy to find the fish holding areas or is it all about local knowledge?
-
Wow! What a flounder and a lovely bass too - that'll be about 5lbs next year!
A good fish for this time of year. How long will the flounders be about Zzippy/Specimen? What did you use to catch it - he has some funny looking rigs dangling off the rods in the first picture!
Have you tried a baited spoon at all? Or is it too deep there?
I think I might just make the effort to come down for the next good spell of weather. BUT, i have to go to Ireland about the second week of January.......might get some good fishing over there!
It was a standard two hook rig but had to bodge it using small bullet weight as all my others anchored me!!!! It looks funny cos the hooks are heavily baited with three or four rag each. Ive not got round to buying any spoons but its very shallow.

Poole harbor - catch report
Well the day was as expected very foggy and bloody cold. Zzippys idea to drift with the tide down to holten heath didnt last long thanks to the slightest of breezes that held us in our tracks, i guess the tide wasnt running much as we had hopped
After paddling over to holten heath i managed to hook into my first flounder after 5 previous failed outings (mostly from the beach).
After nearly falling asleep in the mid day sun we decided to give the main channel a quick crack for some bass.
Moral of the story.... never start a fishing session with the words "Not bothered if I dont catch" it just temps fate!!!!!!!!!!
Was good to meet you Zzippy have to go out again soon.
-
Zzippy got your messages, but i think i may have spammed you as im having some connectivity problems and filled up your inbox :S sorry

Just been looking at the weather and tides for Friday.
Looks good for an early morning Flounder session
If any body is off and would like to come along,I will be launching at Lake Pier,Rockly(Poole Harbour) at around 7am and will fish till about lunchtime. The plan is to drift up to Holton Heath. If I get bites on the way then just might drop anchor and fish in one place for a while.
Not bothered if I dont catch.Just want to get out on the Kayak again seeing as it was the 4th of November I last went.
Zzippy
I was looking to get out this week for a flounder bash but hadnt got around to looking at tides or weather. I will PM you tomoz to let you know for sure but sounds spot on!

Mate you aint gonna have to worry about getting them in the toilet, i went to that car park about 3-4 weeks ago at 4:30am with my kayak. I swear that has to be a serious dogging hotspot or summit!!!! There was a constant stream of cars pulling up lights out for a bit and then off again!!!!! I dont think my bright head lamp was appreciated as i looked around in bemusement!!!
I caught nowt by the way few bites in the dark but the crabs were horrific it was ok when the tide got going and you can drift a bit. Get some spoon rigs with some bright beads.

Yeah, I'm up for that. Where's Rockley?
Probably Rockley park, poole Harbor
-
I suppose I asked for that
Richi, can we look forward to you 'camping out' with Speciman soon?
this time i wont be clicking on the "Portland conger" photo gallery

Unlucky
Looks pretty calm, a good effort to capsize out there.

Im looking to go out next sunday either poole harbor/weymouth, portland/christchurch if anyone is interested in joining. Play football on sats so sunday is the only option.
How does poole harbor fish on stronger tides for flounder?
-
I think you all have very understanding partners not only are you all allowed out to play way more than me but you get to rig up your kayak in the kitchen!!!!!
-
Any suggestions as to the nearest supplier of bait near portland, going into weymouth would be a complete ball ache!!!

There could be several ways to look at this, but they all hang on the above question.
I think game is hung to let the adrenalin levels decline before being consumed by a human.
So is the taste of fish different after they have been dead a while because the lowered adrenalin levels?
As an angler I get a hell of a adrenalin hit from catching or just hooking a good fish. But does the fish also get an adrenalin rush.
Do the live baits I use produce more adrenalin as they wriggle temptingly?
Can any one give me any answers?
Just speculation: they probably do, the flight or fight response is of fundamental evolutionary importance to a wide range of animals without it fish would not quickly respond to danger.
But there is no way you could taste a hormone that is released in such low concentrations. Your more likely to taste lactic acid produced by the fishes muscles during the excertion. But if you kill the fish how can these waste matabolites be broken down.
I imagine they are hung up for other reasons.

Thanks
Im not ready for night sessions yet, does this mark produce during the day. Any particular tide to aim for (high, low, spings?).
-
Richi and me drove down last night intending to fish Ringstead bay - but its a bit of a trek from the car park to the beach - very like a mini Kimmeridge for those that know it - and the westerly wind made the pitch unplayable
Looking to our right we saw portland and decided to stick that twixt the elements and us
We happened on a perfect launch site - FREE parking, Slipway and about as sheltered a launch as you could hope for as its all within the harbour walls.
Looks great, any chance of some directions to this launch site, cheers.

My local winter fishing will be flattie bashing in Poole Harbour, herring bashing around the entrance, ray bashing around the Swanage area, ray cod and whiting bashing in Poole & Christchurch Bay. Further afield Solent and Needles area to try for cod and whiting.
I was actually planning on a poole harbor trip this thurs but the weather says 24mph winds is it sheltered enough in the harbor?

Hi Aidy
Not sure what the habour is like over the autumn and winter. Zzippy and I fished there in winter sometime (can't remember when exactly) - I don't think we caught much if anything inside the harbour on that occassion but did pick up dogfish just outside the middle breakwater entrance.
Any suggestions on good winter marks around bournemouth/weymouth?
