  1. hi guys....jus wondering if anyone knows where i can buy a spare section 6 for a shimano technium xta 1300 ....tried a few local dealers without much success ,,would appreciate any help on where to lay my hands on one....i will try very hard not to stand on this one :wallbash: thx

  2. :) Well, as the name suggests, I am a complete novice. What started as a golf holiday in Ireland next June has developed into Bream fishing (and some golf) o the Shannon. The rest of the guys are very experienced and the converstaion in the pub has moved from pars, birdies, drivers, hooking, slicing to strange terminology like wagglers, cage feeders (?), boilies, feather tip (?) and stuff like that. What I would like to do is for someone to spec me out a value for money bit of kit so that I can go on e-bay and check it out. Also, if anyone is willing to humour me, I would like an overview of fishing for Bream on a river. What sort of kit to use and why (laymans terms please). Got to go now but will logon later.

    Cheers

    JJ

hi jj and welcome to anglers net :)

the best advice i can give you is buy a feeder rod and a coarse reel...you can get both new for not much money...reels go from say 12 to 45 quid...a cheap feeder rod you can get for 20 to 40 quid...go into your local tackle dealer,,,i,m sure he will put you right !! all you need then are a few hooks and small feeders

...these are used to put your ground bait out beside your hook bait...when feeder fishing always try to put your feeder in the same place every cast......thus keeping any fish you have attracted in a small area !!

as for the shannon pre-baiting a swim the night before is sometimes the only way to get them bream.....it aint the river it used to be .

and i would still advise you to go and talk to your local tackle dealer...i,m sure he will give you a crash coarse on feeder fishing,,,,,after that its up to the gods :) enjoy your stay in our lovely country

    best regards mark

  3. had several good catches this summer on small strawberries....one particular day nothing was working well till we switched to strawberries the difference was amazing...the carp love em !!

trying not to eat them through the day is the hard part... :)

  4. Hello...

I'm looking for a bit of advice.. Where is the best place to buy/get fresh maggots from - pref mail order?

    How do you store them?

Sorry if these are really stupid questions - don't know much about fishing... although I am starting to take an interest - much to my husbands delight!!

    Thanks,

    Ktlou

your local tackle dealer i would think is the best place to buy your maggots....store them in a cool dark place,,the colder the better..ie the fridge lol

not sure about the mail order thing...wont they die !!! they need air to breathe..... :)

  5. Thanks Mark, Matthew has removed it but he is going to read this and download them for me, I just havn't told him yet!! We have Norton so I can see what you mean  Thanks again for all your help.

    lyn

plesure to help...just a final word..when you download them and i use them all, cause some pick up different ones than others ...there is a update button on them all...keep them updated !!! you should be ok after that....i did a friends laptop last week and found nearly 900 different spyware malware(and several virus) files on her computer...the computer came with the lastest norton antivirus !! enough said...

  6. Morning, I checked when I went to bed last night and it says it is 'infected' is that different to a virus??????? :headhurt: By the way, small thing, a lot of posters do know but Matthew is my son. Sorry as he has met a lot of AN posters at Wingham they would know & I wrongly think everyone knows. Someone once thought he was my toyboy when he went to get Liam for me :headhurt::lol::lol:

    lyn

toyboy..lol you woundnt be that lucky huh :) as for your virus thingy...not sure what kind of infection u have

lyn but whatever you have in your system yure still gonna need a anti virus or spyware program that can run and pick it up and finally remove it,,,,,ive had my fair share of both and have always been able to remove them with free programs on the net !! once you have these progams run them weekly ..they pick up most things....heres a list of a few free ones avgfree(antivirus) antivir pe(antivirus) ewido(spyware malware) spybot(spyware) and spyware blaster.....and i use processguard which will stop things attacthing

themselves to your registry...these are all free and work far better than some you pay good cash for i.e norton etc ....hope this helps

    best regards mark

  7. let's not forget that spyware and viruses are totally different and anti virus software will not remove spyware and vice versa

    true jeepster....

.i kinda mentioned that but i think she should wait for hubby to come back... :)

bye the way yure avatar is scaring my kids..... :P

  8. I'm not sure I'm pretty hopless when it comes to the tec side of these things I leave it no1 son!! Is it OK to do a seach on the computer or will the virus stop me doing that?

I don't like using it as we have wireless connection. The broadband box is connected to Matthews Xbox will that be infected as well? I hope not as Liam may not make the Timsbury fish in if he has infected that

Any advise will be helpfull. Is it best to leave it off or should I try & clear it?

    lyn

it should be still ok to use if its only spyware...they only slow the computer up if theres a few of them...a virus is different they be worse...do you know the name of the virus or spyware that you have downloaded...in future before you open any downloaded file run it through a anti virus program...theres a few good ones free on the net

  9. Can a spyware virus tranfer to another computer? Liam has kindly tried to download a music website and infected our computer with a spyware virus. Matthew is away for the night so I'm not sure what to do :headhurt:

In the bottom right hand corner with the other icons is a red circle with a white cross with a msg saying click here to protect the computer from spyware, nothing happens when I click it.

Help. I am on a different computer by the way this is why I asked the 1st question.

    lyn

have you not got a spyware program you can run to pick it up and remove it.....ie spybot ,ewido, avg , all free...they pick up most things !

  10. Fished muckno 2 weeks before monahan pairs (early sept) roach a chuck, if ke'ed been trying properly could have bagged 60 -70 lb. Spent the morning experimenting.

Try about 11 mtr caster ur corn and feed a little ball of groundbait every chuck. Dont worry if you get harrassed by pike, 1 -2 balls of groundbait will bring the roach back. As you feed off the smaller fish bigger roach came.

    Maybe worth a try.

    Tightlines

hi ferg...fishing muckno tomorrow(sunday)....its one of my regular places ....found it a bit patchy this year though...expectly for the bigger fish,,,what part of muckno did you fish anyway !!!

was really looking for info on rivers or canals during the coming winter...like the old river fishing at that time of year and was looking for new places to go....

    best regards... :)

  11. Fish the Bann alot, but in the winter, or once the winter levels come through, the Roach will make their way up the small feeder streams, into the canals, and any other quieter areas, away from the main flow. The canals are always cracking sport in the winter, with 70lb of Roach and Bream, a real possibility. Basically, on any system, there will be areas where they shoal up for the winter, and it can pay to go for a drive round, looking for these areas.

thx ducktape.....we do fish some of the smaller canals coming of the ban...but really looking for new venues during the winter months....rivers lakes or otherwise !!

spent along time last year driving round looking for new places with little success....some of the old haunts we used to go to now dont fish...will keep trying anyway mate :)

  12. just wondering if theres any lads on the site that know of any rivers there that fish during the

winter months around the midlands or eastern ireland....i mainly fish the bann and the erne around belturbet but am at a bit of a loss after that....

someone told me that the river blackwater in kells fills up with fish from lough ramor...anyone know !!!

really looking for decent sized roach(aint we all) but there getting harder to find :)

also the river inny at finnea ,,,any one fished it lately !! appreciate any help guys :fishing:
