  1. im pretty useless at making rigs and not really that good, so i was wondering if there anyone from the uk on this forum that would be willing to sell me some ready made rigs for carp fishing?

    henda11,

have you looked at the 'carp rigs' section on this website, (located on the left hand side of the screen). I first had a look at them when I started making rigs and found they were extremely helpful, still have a glance at them every now and then.

    Dan.

  2. Hiya all. On the subject of producing your licence while fishing are you within your rights to ask the person for there ID.

    tHANKS....D.C.....Tenerife.

Basically I think that if someone asks to see your licence then they should be open to show their authority/ID.

  3. If you are actually going to be in Portsmouth there are several Tackle dealers closer than Southampton. Allens Marine in Stamshaw is reasonably easy to get to, and there is another in Copnor that is on bus routes.

If you want to stick with the Poingdexters connection then Hansfords in Fareham is the same company, and a lot closer to Pompey than So'ton.

Thanks 'Cyranne12', I'll have a look around at the shops you listed above. I'll also look at the Nash range and all the others listed in this topic.

Thanks to everyone who has replied.

  4. Haha, very funny. But it did take me a bit of time to realise what it actually said!!! :D

Oh well, on the footballing topic, I should keep quiet as my team have just lost 4-0 for the third time in a row!! If you follow football then it wont take a genius to work out who I support.

    Dan.

  5. Thanks very much for your reply. I'll search on the internet and see if my personal taxi company (my mum and dad) can take me up there some time soon if I see anything I like...

    Cheers,

    Dan.

  6. All,

Can any of you give me a website where I can find a cheap medium sized carry all? Or a shop near Portsmouth, Hampshire.

Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

    Tight Lines,

    Dan.

  7. Ali,

I also have just recently started feeder fishing. I was unsure about what size feeder to get and everything else connected to using feeders. I asked my mates about what they knew on the subject and then when buying the feeders the my local tackle shop asked what they would reccommend and then bought the ones I thought would be best given the information I'd been given.

I can't remember what make they are but I got them because they looked like just the thing I wanted not the make.

  8. Oh ok thanks very much Lyn.

Thanks to everyone else who has posted on here for helpng me clear up my question.

  9. Around June I intend to try France for a week of carp fishing. Living in Scotland, opportunities to fish for large carp are limited so I am a bit of a newbie at this. I would appreciate any advice from you experts.First of all I am looking for a water where I am likely to get plenty of runs (short attention span ;) )Not too bothered about massive fish but a few 20lbers would be nice.Given that I have a 600 mile drive to get to the channel, somewhere in the North of the country would probably suit me better.I intend to camp (bivvy up?) so what is the difference between a tent and a bivvy, apart from street cred.I will be using my pike deadbaiting rods and reels, 3 X custom built Harrison Ballister 13ft 3lb TC with Okuma Interceptors. Is this overgunned for what I intend to do.Should I take bait or buy it on site, and if so, whatAnything else I need to knowThe ideal would be to get a minimum party of 4 anglers so that we get the lake to ourselves, so lastly, anyone else interested in a trip? Thanks in advanceDave
Hi Dave,I have only been fishing once in France and from that single experience and experience from speaking to other anglers and the little I do know is......The site I went to has a website: www.bestfrenchcarp.com , when I was there I got speaking to people who were on the private lake for a week and they said it was great. They had been going for years and kept going back!!!When you know what lake your going to do some research on it, ask on here and then email or get in contact with the lake owners and ask if there are rules like having to use their own pellets/baits etc.And on the bivvy topic, I'm not sure what the main differences are between these and tents but I think they are probably just more practical for the task.Dan.
  10. I'll be turning 65 during the course of the new season but because I'm under 65 at the start of the season I'll have to buy a licence at the full price and not be entitled to any reduction.

I think it only fair therefore that someone young enough for concessionary licence at the beginning of the season shouldn't need to pay more on their birthday, because I certainly won't be getting a refund on my birthday.

I guess that it all evens out.

(ps You can't buy a concessionary licence online at present, you either have to run down to the post office, or creakingly shuffle down to the post office, depending upon whether buying a junior or senior licence!)

Haha. Yer I'll be running down to the post office soon to get a new concessionary licence at the post office.

Thanks everyone for all your replies.

    Many thanks and Tight Lines,

    Dan......

  11. Personally, I would go with an Okuma reel. They have different reels that are for all situations and are a perfect compromise between cost and quality. I have one of the Okuma Interceptor reels and it is easily as good as a shimano :D

p.s. I am not affiliated with Okuma in any way!! Just a happy customer :P

Yer I'm the same as Ollie, I have got an Okuma Interceptor and have been extremely happy with it ever since I have had it. Not one problem with it and half the price of other reels in the same area as that one.

    Tight Lines,

    Dan.

  12. I have 11 okumas and some of them i have had and used for ten years, i have never, ever had a problem with any of them. The Epix is as good as anything twice as expensive and the cheaper reels knock other bottom end reels for six. Don't get me wrong i have a couple of diawa reels and a shimano and there is nothing wrong with them either, its just i hate the barely concealed snobbery that bubbles up everytime the word okuma is mentioned.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Devonian thanks for the extra confidence with my reel.

    Tight Lines,

  13. It's as clear as a carp puddle, but my interpretaion of the rule is that you can fish with a junior licence until the day you are 17, when you will need a full licence

Oh ok thanks. So I should just fish with my 'new' junior licence for the whole of next season and then get a new full adult licence for the next season.

Many thanks, and if anyone can show me on a website where they found out the info that would be great thanks.

    Dan.

  14. But 12 to 16 is more than a little ambiguous. Does it cut off at 16 or extend through to then end of his 16th year?

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I will leave this post for a few days and if then\ \i havent been given a clear answer then I will email the environment agency and ask them for the answer.

Any further replies helping with my problem will be greatly appreciated.

    Tight Lines,

    Dan.

  15. That's a decent question actually - I just look at the EA website and can't find the answer. I think if you're between 12 and 16 inclusive you only need a junior licence, then from 17 onwards it's the full whack. I could be wrong though...

Yer I cant find it on the 'Environment Agency' website, I have been wondering this for a long time and now that it is time for me to get a new one then I thought I'd ask.

Thanks Anderoo for your helpfull response.

    Dan.

  16. Dear all,

I am 15 at the moment, birthday in january, and obviously need to get a new licence soon. So at the moment am unsure what licence to get. What I need to know is what age does the junior licence go up to? Is it 16 or 18? Becuase I have asked others I know and have had varied answers. If I do need to get an adult licence, as I will turn 16 in the licence year could I get a junior licence up until my birthday and then not fish for the remaining two months?? Or just get the adult licence for the whole year? I am very confused on this subject... I've asked around with people I know fish and have had varied answers.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Dan.

  17. I'd go slightly higher than previous posts and go with a through action rod of 2 lb test just in case you need to hold them or change waters and need to cast a bit.

Depends a bit on whether or not you will change lakes/change places you are fishing like not fishing in the near margins for 5lb to lower doubles to trying to catch high doubles.... So I agree with tigger with the 2lb TC.

    Dan.

  18. I haven't been there my self but have spoken to people that have and they have all said good things about the place. What fish are you going for; carp, trout of just general course fish??

    Tight Lines.

    Dan.
