  1. I Started by son, off on a little telescopic 7 ft rod and reel, and a tub of maggot on the Norfolk broads, the look on his face with his 1st catch was pricless he just turned 7

I found with a rod and reel it kept him amused if he wasn't getting a bite within 5 seconds lol his cast is great now and getting into the swing of it, even though he is nearly 9 I still find it a struggle to fish WITH him ...You can bet ya life if you don't fish he gets on fine and no help needed...As soon as you attempt to set up your own rod all sorts of birds nests fly off the spool, prize specimen "Tree" fish hooked, the back of his coat hooked...................Get the feeling he don't want me to fish!!!! lmaoooooo

Good luck and enjoy :D you can get as much pleasure watching your children catch as catching yourself

  2. Hiya Boozle,

Your very welcome but no thanks needed at all I'm just glad I could be of use to ya both lol sounds like you both had a great day dispite a few hiccups and the Carp laughing at ya! lol It's so frastrating when they splash infront of ya and totally ignore you! lol

Good on ya and a great write up :D

  3. I have suffered "birds nests" off my reel before now - mine was due to the line not being wound on the spool tight enough............

My cure......Place new spool of line in a bowl of hot water on the floor, put your empty reel & spool on the rod, take the end of the line from the bowl of hot water, thread it through the butt loop and attatch it to the reel - thread the line through the centre of the yellow pages or a big heavy book on a table, sit back, feet up and wind the line on ya spool....You get the tension and an even spool of line...and more importantly, it's on the right way around...

    HIya Stuchef

Well after looking at Hellesdon Mill decided to park up on Costessy we were told the water had risen 18" in a week but hay!

unfortunatly after 2 sharp frosts, blazing sunshine and water of only 10 degrees of whick was still rising due to the sluices being opened, no Barbel this week-end, a few Chub & Dace came out and 1 of te guys got his very 1st pike on the 1st chuck so he was well happy hahhahaa

Thanks for all your help etc..a good week-end but the only thing that was flowing well was all the alcohol at night when we all met up hahahhah - next time!! :yeah:

  7. Bearing in mind you have to be a member of a Sufolk A.A.A affiliated club (Bungay Cherry Tree, Fleece A.C, Harleston and Diss or Southwold A.C) to fish The Waveney on Bungay Common or alternatively buy a Bungay Cherry Tree, river day ticket for a fiver from Reads in Bungay town centre...

The upper rivers around this way have been low and clear for the last couple of weeks but it's been chucking it down since around 10 a.m this morning.

I went out this lunchtime for a very brief go and had probably one of my most successful Chub session in respects to fish/minutes spent fishing. I fished a tiny mill pool on the Upper Waveney, under the shelter of a Weeping Willow, had 3 Chub to around 4lb's in the space of about 20 minutes on freelined meat, got drenched, took the rod down, popped the net in the back of the car and went home..

The water coming over the weir was already starting to colour and speed up.. If it clears up as forcast tommorow all the rivers round here will be in tip top Autumn condition by the weekend...

    Hi Dant,

Mark is the guy who runs Cherry Tree, lovely guy, shpild of taken my little one for a match there but 1st day thounder and lighting (not a good idea with kids nad carbon poles!! Hahah) and disarster the 2nd, but hay!

After throwing it around with the guys, bruce, John an I decided it will he Hellesdon mill...yes VERY LIMITED barbel pegs but a good head of Chub al the same.....They are determind to get e a REAL Barbel (my last one was from a lake!) ....Watch this space..

Thanks all for yor help :D

I'll let you know how we all get on Saturday ;)

  8. Awwwwwwwww Peter thank you - This "smashing little son" of mine informed me last night that not only does he want santa to bring him a nintendo wii...ALSOOOOOOOOOO he has his eye on the Milo seat box! Would be so bad but he not even 8 yet!:huh::huh: Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm don't we all! hahahaahahahahahha

Elton Haha I will bare that in mind for a Friday night hahahhha - Thank you

  9. " sorry guys didn't mean to post twice...1st one dissapeared so done it again"

Hi Ginger......thanks for the info - We are all leaving from Wroxham, We have a few possibilities to head for, I will check out the link

The orignial plan went a bit Pete Tong to say the least! Only having caught a Barbel from a lake and not a REAL ONE (they won't let me forget that! Haha) I didn't really have a clue about the Wensum....

I may if I have time go up Hellesdon tomorrow and have a good look around..

Thanks for your help ginger :D

  10. Hi Peter,

Thank you for the welcome...and yes I am the same Karen

I read a fair bit about Burbot making a come back a few months ago but the reports on them wern't exactly great bless their litttle fins! Pretty fish though.

I though we would hit a blank on the Barbel frontbeing so many of us.....but hay! One of those things.....it is looking like Hellesdon we can all get on there no problem adn go for some Chub....Or anything that takes a fancy to the contents of our bait tubs hahahah.

Thanks for your help anyway peter. :D

  11. Hi and welcome, Karen. I assume you are the same Karen who used to post on the one time excellent Angling Times website.

This question re barbel was also asked a few weeks ago without a really helpful answer being posted. Norfolk is not really a barbel stronghold so perhaps other species would be more in order. A Burbot bash might be good, rumour has it that they might be back!

Hi peter....Thank you for teh welcome...and yes I am the same Karen ........I thought I would come up with a blank...Burbot are making a come back it seems, read a fair bit about them a good few months ago......Not very good reports on the little lovelys hahah

It's looking like Hellesdon Mill then for Chub and whatever else fancies the goodies in our bait tubs! Hahahhah

    Thank you anyway Peter :D

  12. Hiya All ....(sorry to barge in on my 1st visit and ask for help)

I have a bit of a problem and hoping someone can help please.......

I have about 11 friends coming to here from all over on the 20th & 21st This month to what we WOULD OF been a Barbel session........However we have come to a blank as the Wensum only has 3 day ticket Barbel pegs, Lenwade hit a blank too as did Costessey... All very sparce and can not accomadate all of us.

so we are having a change of plan.....Now apart from commercials and the Broads (both of where I normally fish) where else can we all go please? Hellesdon Mill seems a good option but seems to be a parking problem etc there...Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Hahahhahahaha

Any suggestions please would be very helpfull

    Thank you
