  1. as the thread states i need a decent carbon/ligh paddle as i have a £30 steel one atm which is a tad on the heavy side. as i have an islander fishing yak i need a longer paddle probably a touring one but wasn't sure what to get.

my local yak shop deals with a company called Palm if they offer any decent paddles but i'm happy to mail order/import.

    thanks for any help ppl.

  2. @ Nigel

    @adam

did you get the email and figure out how to move maps to your gps adam?

i purchased this great bag from the tackle shop £8.00 by the gurkha, on Belgrave Promenade, Wilder road.

you cant really see too well from the picture but it is basically a dry bag and can be folded to a tight seal, it has 3 tabs on both sides to enable you to clip it down to your deck the same as on the top in the picture, the carry strap that is heavy duty can be unclipped. The one he stocks is bright orange.

this is useful as a cheap alternative to the yak fish bag strapped onto the from of your kayaks.

  4. Take a gander at this!

The list of fish that can make men curse with fear has up to this point pretty much been limited to very large sharks.

Add another one to the list: the giant snakehead.

The giant snakehead is a carnivorous fish that feasts on pretty much anything in its path, and has caused all manner of destruction in places where it has been introduced. With the recent discovery of the fish in Britain, officials are scrambling to find a possible solution to this dreaded environmental issue.

  5. ok i have made my trolley system today and all the bits are in the post for this type of anchor system.

the anchor will sit close from the stern, the picture looks like its further away than it actually is but its only 8":

    6" from the bow:

to lock the trolley system down i will jam it under one of my paddle straps:

    clamcleat:

    0a6a703e.jpg

i have a small clamcleat just in front of the footrest, when anchoring from the bow the rope will just go over the top when anchoring from the stern it will loop back from the footrest track so i only needed to use one cleat. The trolley was very easy to do, i used 2 pad eyes and 4 rivets that i ordered from here and were delivered within a week and cost less than the same rivets sent from the uk. I used a little sikaflex in each of the holes and under the pad eyes just to make sure.

the system on my boat was very easy to do as it naturally sits below the carry handles and pulls easily from aft to bow, just eager now to get it on the wqater and give it a try but i am waiting for some floating rope to turn up as neither of our chandlers stock this, nor do they stock stainless rings or the rope floats, for a seaside town with a working harbour ilfracombe sucks for components!

  6. great detailed easy to follow pictures, got my pad eyes and rivits this morn so going to try this over the weekend!

ok, on the anglersafloat.co.uk site it says they used a thumb knot to secure the bungee and a barrel knot for the carabineer and ring. can someone please explain how to tie these knots.

this is what i think is the thumb knot which i use for heavy mono when tope fishing is it the same knot?

isn't a barrel knot used for attaching two pieces of rope together like a sheet bend but a lot more permanent, secure and same size rope?
