  1. personally i would use the tide to go to combe martin and come back when the tide turns. there is a mussel bed just off of watermouth harbour which is good fishing ground so is off of the sewer outlet just a little further up.

    but the tides are dropping off, its only a 7m tide and with the wind behind you coming back it will probably be ok going to lee, its not that far!

    with a bit of luck i can get out tomorrow for a few hours, depends on me wife! my hummingbird fish finder turned up today so i will be fitting that sunday with a bit of luck

  2. does anyone know of any on-line chandlers that stock the plastic line clips that screw onto kayaks as i can't seem to find them anywhere and our local chandler is a bit limited in stock?

    i am making a anchor pulley system and need to find all components. there were small pulleys on ebay but the smaller ones were nickel plated and not stainless. i would prefer plastic pulleys and plastic carabiner.

  3. if you anchor conventional style ie from the bow you would have to fish facing backwards also avoids having to climb to front or back to retrive anchor

    surly this is an advantage if you uptide, as you are facing the right direction to cast?

  4. Hi CF are you out this weekend, weather not looking bad for at least 1 of the days, wife on about doing things round house so wondered if you fancied a paddle and possibly a few drifts over high tide as I think top tides around 15:30 on Sat btw hows the fish finder fitting going ?

    not sure if i can get out this weekend yet. the fish finder hasn't arrived as yet only got the battery, meh will get done eventually i suppose, dam online companies!

  5. ok i have a 12 volt battery for my echo sounder and a charger but not sure how long to charge for, does anyone know the calculation needed to work this out?

    Battery = 12v 3.3Ah

    Charger = 12v 300mA3.6VA(max)

    Thank You.

  6. i probably passed right by you. i went out from larkstone at 12 and paddled around to the other side of capstone and fished off of the first point of the tunnels, and drifted back towards capstone using a pirk and hock eye's. i caught 7 pollock and a red gurnard. the biggest pollock was almost into double figures but i lost it. took about 10 mins to bring up after being dragged about a bit, got it on deck and put it into my bad, after 15 mins and another drift i thought the fish would be dead so i wedged it behind the seat under the storage net and the started to paddle back for another drift after a few strokes i heard the fish flapping about and turned around to see it slide into the water. it looked dead and was just floating so i stopped the yak and started to turn to pick it back up and the dam thing swam off, i was like ffs, but was fun. i brough home 2 pollock one 4lb8 and another just under 4lb, so not a bad day!

  7. Just had to post how happy I am tonight, purchased a second hand Malibu Two XL on Tuesday, took it out for an hour on Weds and Thurs night but took it out for a full day today and its the best thing Ive ever bought !! The kids loved it the wife loved it and I fished from it after making up an set of rod holders this morning out of plastic piping. Caught a few small pollock. Took to the water at Helebay 11am and came in for 30mins for lunch finally came back in at 7pm

    is that hillsborough in the background?

  8. down my way this is the best time of year to be out as you get mix of summer and winter speices

    September and October are both quiet months in north Devon, the fishing picks up again beginning of November! However there are tope about if you feel like a challenge!

  9. Hi CF I was thinking about this too so would be interested in the answers plus would you be interested in meeting up for a fishing session as with everything safety in numbers !! (especially winter time)

    sounds good adam, as we have now reached the end of the easy summer fishing i wont bother much until November when the whiting hit us. but i will be out building up me arms. hopefully i can get out for a few hours tomorrow.

    got to sort out an anchor these next couple of weeks to.

  10. ok i have ordered a Humminbird PiranhaMAX 215 and a battery from here the 12V 3.3Ah SLA. so next week i shall be bugging you ppl for some help!

    as you can see from the pics i am a bit limited on where to put it. i thought maybe remove the scotty rod holder and chop up some wood/plastic and fix it to the rod holder fixings to give my a larger area and fit both the rod holder and fish finder side by side.

    suggestions appreciated!

  11. the only time it sits sideways into the tide is when retreiving the anchor to stop this i find stetching my foot as far forward as possible then pulling with the rope resting on the top off my foot helps keep straight in the tide

    maybe a silly suggestions but wouldn't buoying up the anchor be safer or is the speed of a kayak too slow for this method?

  12. Yes, I look forward to fishing in the winter. However, the weather tends to be more unsettled making days afloat over the marks I want to fish harder to come by.

    what do your wear on your feet/hands to stop the cold? do you wear flotation suits or thermal suits with a life jacket?

    i know what its like in January, February from shore fishing, 5 mins of bitter cold and your extremities go numb!

    btw how the hell do you go for a pee in a kayak?

  13. Inside a plastic hull it should be fine the plastic should be smooth there - recommend cleaning the area first before applying the adhesive - I use white spirit. Also put a heavy weight on top of the transducer whilst its drying.

    thank you, now to pick up either the,

    HUMMINBIRD PIRANHAMAX 215 or the EAGLE CUDA 168 from ebay. i think the hummingbird as it has a Dual Beam transducer as i will probably be fishing in only 15 to 30 foot of water targeting bass!

  14. Providing there are no air bubbles in your adhesive of choice (sikaflex, silicone sealant, epoxy resin), you can attach a fishfinders transducer ('sensor') to the inside of the hull and shoot through it - the advantage is that no drag is created (even a small object submerged outside a kayak can create noticeable drag). Reported disadvantages are a possible degradation in signal quality - my in hull transducer worked flawlessy (was able to zoom in and see my bait on the screen and also see my lead on its way down when they were in the fishfinders view.

    can i glue one inside a polyethylene plastic hull or does it have to be a fibre glass hull?

  15. ty CF for the reply sounds excellent, we launched off Hele tonight it was so flat and no wind :) lifejackets didnt arrive today so was only paddling around hele area didnt want to go out without jackets so was more practicing getting on and let kids jump off and practice climbing in etc close to shore edge but cant wait to take a rod out I bet along under coast guards is a great spot

    if you need kit quick, there are kayak shop's in bideford and in woolacombe.

    went out from barricane today, dam that beach is tough to get your boat up from!

    caught a few small mackerel, there were many shoals still bubbling up in the surface but no bass in sight. the good weather is looking to stay for a few days with a bit of luck i can get out saturday.
