  1. Mullet have been on sale in Asian and west indian food shops for as long as I can remember, and are a common food fish to both those comunitys.

You could put your family on the plate for them and they would eat them, give them a big brown thing that comes out of your anus and they would scoff them down, in other words, they will eat anything.

Just will it happen over here? i doubt it. Going into the chippy and instead of cod, emm, i will have a large mullet and chips please.

  2. Was down there sunday evening after going bait pumping in the bay low tide ( for the first time) and managing 2 worms :D :D Gotta start somewhere i guess. We had couple of score blow lug, squid/shrimps and raw prawns. Got to the fishing spot next to the slipway and found about 4 score of lug on the beach still alive and some more squid, bonus. Thanks to whoever left them there ;) Fishing was much the same, loads of whiting and a few doggies and 1 codling about a 1lb thrown in. Will give the coast a miss until i read more reports of some nice cod coming out then will get back down there. For now i will stick to the river as having better results down there, and its on my doorstep.

  3. Been quite a few codling coming out from the thames, a couple around the 6lb mark, and many between 2-4lb which ive seen and caught. Good to see them coming out of the rivers this early, hopefully a bumper year would be nice.

As for mullet, sounds tempting giving it a bash round here, maybe 1 last session during the week ;)

  4. WOW! that is one awesome mullet. does anyone know what the british record is??

Ive been told that there is only a few other fish bigger on record, that was the record from wales what norm said, 14lb 2oz and i think 3-4 and they have all been caught from alderney. So if there was ever such thing as an english record then that could very well be it.

  5. last sunday just set up all my gere for pike sitting back bit of a sick head from the powers thats whiskey then it started a strong westerly started to blow away it went half a sleep i mised it all i could do is wach it flotting away and then down it went another umbrlla gone a wel :o

Had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. Night fishing at a lake in the summer. Fell asleep under the brolly and woke up to find it gone. Had a look around and found it floating upside down down the other end of the lake caught up in the reeds. to far out to get it so chucked rocks in it to sink it.

  6. When the word tow rope was mentioned something sprung to my mind. Reminds me of my mate when he goes beach fishing. Reel loaded up with 30lb line, giant hooks baited up with more bait on than there is in your local shop, expecting to catch jaws, needless to say he ends up catching sfa. Mind you if he hits a snag he ends up reeling that in aswell.

If conditions are ok and not too rough i pull out my carp rod and use that sometimes, makes catching fish more enjoyable.

  7. Just another excuse to milk money from us.

If and when it comes out then us mugs wont have much choice but to pay for it, (either that or just quit fishing) but be warned, expect a £5 rise every year tho.

What next, a license to walk down the street, wouldnt suprise me.

  8. Having a carp pull my rod in a lake.

I had only just casted out, being a kid about 10, didnt have much tackle, just a rod and reel. So no rod rest, laid it down on the bank while i went for a little walk trying to find a few sticks for a rod rest, walking away only to see my rod take off and go skimming across the water :( Lucky for me it was a boating lake and the bloke was just packing up the boats so i asked him to go out a get my rod as it was floating. Handed it to me on the bank and i reeled in about an 8lb carp with had be fail hooked behind the eye.

And getting hit on the head by a 4oz ledger

I was about the same age. I was casting out from underneath a pier doing a normal cast, letting go to early, weight hitting underneath the pier, i chucked the rod down run forward about 5 paces, put both hands over my head but the weight still manged to find its way between my fingers and whack me on my bonce :( blood everywhere, i cried like a baby and had to be rushed to hospital by the manager of the local pub.

I was unlucky at fishing, surprised i still carried on and didnt quit, had another visit to hospital aswell when i was younger when i got a hook go in my finger, in one side and out the other.

All happened when i was a kid, but i think that weight hitting me on the head knocked some sense into me as ive stayed away from the bad luck (touch wood) :)

  9. I caught just the 1 and only one, about 15lb grass carp from a lake in paddock wood (kent). 5am in the morning just as i was in my sleeping bag dozing off and the buzzer goes off, jumped up like we do, running around on the frosty cold ground in my boxers and socks, lol. Nice fish tho and put up quite a decent fight.

  10. I didnt really think about a second hand road, but i suppose if the right one came up then id snap it up.

Will be used for clean ground fishing.

And i like the look of them ABU Suveran. Do tackle shops let you try before you buy, would be nice ;)

  11. Im after a half decent beachcaster, around 13ft and the £100-£150 price range.

I recently brought an abu 6500 high speed mag and using it on an old 12ft abu rod which just dont quite seem to be up to the job. Ive looked at a daiwa sandstorm but id really like an abu rod to go with the reel :) So you thoughts on a rod would be much appreciated as ive not come across much.

  12. Hi people.

Well i'll start by saying my names Glenn im 30 and from a place called Gravesend in Kent.

Ive been fishing since i was about 8, mainly sea, up and down the river Thames and down the kent coast. I also do a bit of freshwater (carp&pike) during the summer. Been slowly getting back into the sea fishing things over the past few years and hoping to get down to the coast more, for a bit more serious fishing.

Been reading through the website and noticed that there is quite a lot of interesting stuff and tips so i thought i suppose id better join up, and it would be rude not to say hello ;)
