  1. I do, not often but sometimes i can't resist. I try to eat more sustainable alternatives like pollack or ling when I can, which is getting easier as more fishmongers carry them these days.

If you ask for cod the shop must serve you cod, under the trades discription act. But if you ask for fish they can serve anything usually coley.

These days the pieces you get in the chippy's ain't big enough to fill a hollow tooth so I don't bother!

  2. There is a book caled the Warwickshire street map of which I have a copy!

It is available from the public library and is published by the Fire and Rescue Service. It show all known lakes, pools and ponds in Warwickshire. And is well worth getting!

There must be other editions of the other counties obtainable!

  3. I cannot see the point of this freeze, what about people that will be eligable for a concessionary license in the next 5 years only to be denied them because some 2 faced scumbag of a politician wants to score browie points.

I have recently qualified for incapacity benefit, after struggling for the past several years of not being able to get a job because of my Arthritis!

I have applied for a blue badge so as to obtain a concessionary license, and be able to park nearer to the supermarket when I do my shopping. I now recieve £86 per week an extra £27 which means I can now afford heating in the winter. Up to now I have had to wrap a blanket around me and cauddle a hot water bottle for warmth, because the governement see fit to pay me less than is needed for a comfortable lifestyle.

The politicians are all too ready to criticise the disabled for not working, when they are the ones who place the obstacles in our way by not forcing employers to give us work. I would love to have a nice easy job that pays around £300 per week and be able to afford a holiday and go out for a nice meal in a resaurant once in a while but the reality is no employer will give me a job when he can employ a Jam Roll (Pole) at less than the minimum wage, as they do not come under British employment legistlation.

  4. a few times last year when fishing really far out with a feeder i seem to be getting less bite indication the further out i fish on the quiver tip

is there any tips on how to solve this because all the big fish seem to be in the deeper water further out and i would prefer to watch the rod tip than waiting for a buzzer to sound,

the lake bottom is very uneven, the lake is man made and can go from 3ft deep to 8ft deep in a matter of yards and i know it as lots of shelves and raised bars and is apparently 17ft deep at its deepest

so my line going over a raised underwater hill and back down the otherside is probably the main problem

    any advice would be great

The answer in short is no!

Feeder fishind at long range can be a bit tricky, use braid prestretched mono for your mainline, this will give you a better indication!

And use a knotless knot on your hook for a better chance of hooking your quarry!

  5. Posted on behalf of Bob. Please add all replies to this thread:

The pike fishing season was introduced by Salmon anglers who didn't want course anglers catching they're precious game fish!

The same pretentious Merchant bankers (W followed by a ship handbrake) also introduced the course fishing closed season, for the same reason.

The fact is that the pike season is only used by a few clubs/owners these days, Royal Leamington Spa AA of which I am a member being one of them. You may find that the waters in your area allow out of season fishing for pike. So keep chucking those lures baby!

  6. Alcocks made a groundbait called silver cloud, which contained silver sand and came in a muslin bag which you threw into youe keepnet to soak for about 10 minutes before you threw it into your swim. It was by far the best groundbait on the market at the time as all the others were no more than crumbs.

If you read Izaak Waltons book He recomends you "use earth from the hedgerow in your ground bait when the water be clear!" this method has been used for at least 400 years so there is nothing new in adding building sand to GB, the important thing is now you have found out about it utilize it to its fullest!

  7. In all fishing it is imperitive that you strike at the right time1 And for predators it is best to hit them straight away to minimise the chance of deep hooking!

I have some long disgorgers that I made especially for this. A John Robertson deep throat maybe helpfull for the larger fish!

  8. You can rely on the weathermen they will always let you down!

For the most part the weather forecast is a generalisation and should be treated as such, most of the time they are guessing what will happen mostly they are right, but just ocassionally you get a situation like when Michael Fish said there is no chance of a hurricane!

And you get the worst storms in living memory!
