Now I know both are the same you will be begging for more. The Okuma's are at the minute the best value for quality and workmanship. Never mind your S*****O. Why pay in excess of £100 when you can get the same if not better for half that? I rest my case

  2. I have been asked for mine once in 20+ years and that was at a match. I do believe that licences should be checked at the fishery, but then again what do they care they are only taking your money, so what. How about introducing a law that, if you are caught without a rod licence then not only you get find but the ownwer of the fishery gets find, I don't think so. The structure we have in place at the minute is not working so why not change it so licences are checked at the point of fishing and fines imposoed accordingy. Maybe then we can see our money (those who pay) spent better on things we need like improving the rivers etc. Mind you the people who polute the rivers in the first place and we now who they are and they cost the EA millions each year then the bigger the fines or even inprisionment would not go a miss in my book. It is not only fish that is my concern I can honestly say I have seen wildlife that many people can only wish they would have seen

  3. In Coventry maggots are £2.20 and casters are £2.50 a pint, although the bait is excellent. How I would love to only pay £1.50. Some people are so lucky. How is it there is uch a variation in price over the country?

  4. Once the rain has eased off you could try Coombe Abbey but look for clear water as you are likely to only catch Zander in the coloured water. The Avon is worth a try as well once you can fish it. A good spot on the Avon is a strech called the Lido just before Stratford.

The Epixors are not available over here as they are for American market. I can't say that they are the same as the Epix we get here as I have never seen one close up or used one. I have seen photo's of them and I must say they look very similar. I would be interested to know if thay are the same, but just branded with a different name.

You will not go far wrong with the Okuma range. My advice is spend what you can afford,Dynadrag's start at £19.99 and the Epix is £59.99. The longbow is £39.99. The interceptor which is the mid range is £29.99 and a lot of reel for the money. Fishtec do these at that price and only £1.50 postage. Ebay is always worth a look as it could save a few quid on baitrunners. Take a look at these sites

  7. I'm not on about club owned waters more privately run waters. I understand clubs have their rules, which some have been in operation for years. I am more interested in why we pay lots of money to privately owned waters to fish them and then they make rules like no night fishing, when they could make even more. Obviuosly they are making too much, from just selling day tickets and at £8-£10 a day in some cases i'm not surprised. Last summer I was at a water (no names) everyday for a week and counted the amount of people fishing and what would have been taken in money for the week. To my astonishment i could not believe what the sum was. I took an avereage price of £5 to allow for concessions etc and the water was taking at least £3200 a week in the height of summer. This figure is only a rough calculation so no replies saying it's twoddle. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a bit low as I didn't take matches into account

  8. Thanks for the replies chaps. The reason I was on about night fishing is because I am very rarely on carp waters before 4 or 6 in the afternoon and then you have to be away at 10'ish.

Most of the waters I fish don't fish really well until evening anyway, and then you can catch them inches from the bank. When people have packed up and chucked their remaing bait in I laugh cos I know within half an hour fish will be boiling in the water and it is time for me to take the fish out.

When you are catching quality fish you don't want to pack up. I'm not saying I want to stay all night but until it starts to slow down would be nice(who no's I may stay all night)

Steve I will have a word with the owners about you idea to see if anything will happen about it is another thing.

  9. Cheers Pokey I didn't really think of the insurance, but when you are paying extortionate day ticket prices don't you think this is a something they should offer? Ok if it does not work then knock it on the head. I tend to fish the rivers a lot at night as there seems to no restristions on night fishing and the price of the day and night ticket is still very good value.

  10. This really annoys me, where i live which is in the Midlands alot of the waters I fish do not allow night fishing. Most of these waters fish really well in the evenings and early mornings and i bet they are great at night, but as this is not allowed who can tell. These waters I talk about, you must be off the water before sunset or just after and in some cases before and you are not allowed on until 6 sometimes 7 in the morning. As long as you are trustworthy I don't see any problems with staying on especially when you visit the place 3 sometimes 4 times a week and you are well known to the owner or baliff. Sorry if I went on a bit :(:(

  11. Interesting subject. I fish a still water that is 13.5 acres and has barbel to 11lb 8oz, this I know because I have caught them to this weight. I don't know if there are any bigger fish in there as I have not heard of anything bigger being caught. I have never had anything under 3lb and I believe they are not breeding. On catching the barbel the first thing I noticed was how lean the fish were, yet long. The picture (if it works) shows a barbel of 8lb 6oz. This was one of 10 barbel on that visit and was the biggest but lost a double at the net, the smallset being 4lb 4oz

This stretch is mainly chub, roach and bream also some pike and zander. As for methods the stick and waggler work well and also the feeder.Just upstream from there is a strtch called the Lido well worth a visit. There are plenty of other stretches of the Avon worth a try if interested let me know

  13. Hereford

I don't know where you are but i'll guess and say Hereford. If that's the case the Avon is full of Zander especially aroud Evesham. Also Coombe Abbey near Coventry has a good head of zeds that go to over 17lb. If your interested in having ago let me know i will be more than willing to help you. Anyway the fish i'd like to catch is a Grayling on the stick and centre pin, but there is no where in the mids I know of that holds them.

  14. I think I have fished this place but many years ago. I think then it was called Freemans Marina please correct if I am wrong. If this is the case I use to fish it on a regular basis. The only bait I used to take then was trout pellet paste and meat. If you want a good days fishing then try Meadowlands at Ryton you will not be dissapointed. Carp 35lb+ but many in the 6-10lb range, Barbel 11lb+, Crucian's 4lb+, Tench 5lb+, Bream 7lb+ and lots roach, rudd, perch and skimmers.

  15. I go fishing every boxing day as I cannot stand going to the in-laws. This is not because of the in-laws as the father-in-law comes with me.The reason is all the other wasters that turn up, and I can't be bothered to be pleasant to idiots I don't like. It dosen't matter what the weather is like I will be on the river or on a carp puddle if the river is unfishable. I would rather get wet, be cold but happy than warm and miserable. Well that's enough of that, so if anybody see's someone on The Avon boxing day with a smile on their face that will be me.
