Fly fishing at night in Australia in the Snowy mountains I caught a Platypus - Thankfully my host a native Australian quickly pointed out that it was highly venemous and should not be picked up! Luckily I was fishing barbless and was able to unhook it in the bottom of the net with a pair of long nose pliers and carefully return it. It took a size 10 long shank ACE OF SPADES fished on a slow sinker should anyone visit Oz and want to give it a go !

Hi,
I am thinking of joining the Vauxhall angling club and am trying to get some information of fishing the Gt Ouse at Harrold near Olney. I don't know much about fishing for either species nor the water concerned and would appreciate any information and advice anybody can offer.

Hi,
I have just joined and thought I would say hello. I live in Northamptonshire and my main interests are fly fishing for game fish although I have done some salt water fly fishing and also caught carp on the fly.
I normally fish Anglian water fisheries as they are close to home and if I have any great ambitions after 45 years of fly fishing it is to catch a barbel and a chub on the fly - perhaps the Gt Ouse would be worth a try?
I lived in Australia, Finland and have been lucky enough to have fished in many overseas locations for a wide variety of species.
I have recently taken back up course fishing and enjoy the relaxation as a change from working hard with the fly rod all day and in particular the double handed salmon rod!
Anyway I am looking forward to the opening of Anglian water in a few weeks time so I can get out and shake off the cobwebs!
Tight lines to you all.

Thanks to all who answered my question. I went a walk around Harrold Park yesterday and was shocked at the large number of cormorants roosting and nesting there. Maybe I do need to find another location because whilst Barbel and chub may prove too large for them to dine on the prospects for any silver fish looks poor - if there are any left. I will look into the Verulum option - thanks.
