  1. TeamSurv, the crowd sourced community charting project, is recruiting more boats to participate.
Whilst we'll welcome you wherever you are, at the moment we are particularly interested in the following areas:

    United Kingdom
    - Weymouth
    - Plymouth
    - Milford Haven
    - West coast of Scotland

    USA
    - ICW
    - San Francisco

    Arctic

All you need is a depth sounder and GPS. It costs you nothing, and only takes a little of your time.

Have a look at www.teamsurv.com, and if it looks interesting click on Join In.

  2. Hi,

Some of you may be interested in TeamSurv (www.teamsurv.eu).

This is a project where boats log GPS and depth data when going about their normal activities, upload it to the web when they get ashore, and it is then processed to help create better charts. Processing includes tide height corrections and other factors.

You see the immediate results just after uploading your data, and we are currently doing more advanced processing to produce downloadable chartlets for areas where we have enough data.

Data logging is done by a simple hardware data logger we supply, which interfaces to NMEA0183 or Seatalk instruments and stores data on a USB memory stick.

If you are interested, please have a look at www.teamsurv.eu.

  3. TeamSurv is a project to help create better charts of coastal waters, by getting sailors to log GPS and depth data - see www.teamsurv.eu for more information. For example, in Britain the UKHO states that only 50% of Britain's coastal waters are adequately surveyed, and they concentrate on areas used by commercial shipping. Join TeamSurv and help update the charts and fill in the gaps.

We are asking for people to get involved by logging data and uploading it to the web site - as a logger you will be able to see not just your data, but also that contributed by everyone else in the project.

You can log the data by using either logging software that runs on a PC, or a small hardware logger that writes the data to a memory stick, uploading the data through our web site.

The software is a free download from our web site. For the hardware logger, we have a limited number that we can provide on free loan to those who go to sea in our trial areas, otherwise you can purchase one at cost.

    Regards,

  4. Smartcom Software’s Tide Wizard, the leading software for predicting tide heights, is being used to plan the 24th Rosslare Small Boat Festival sea angling event, and is also offered in the prizes.

TideWizard has been used by event organiser Phil Hallsworth to plan the Rosslare festival, as TideWizard allows long term predictions of tide heights and times of high and low water to be made. This is used both in selecting suitable dates for the event, and also in setting the times for boats to be launched and recovered from the slipway.

Copies of TideWizard have also been provided by Smartcom Software for inclusion amongst the prizes for the event.

Phil says “I always recommend Tide Wizard when any of the members asks for what tide program to get. £20 for all the tide tables you need around the UK and Ireland for the next 90+ years is great value.”

This year’s event is being held from the 12th to the 19th September. It looks set to be bigger than ever, with just under 50 boats and over 120 anglers as confirmed entries to date.

TideWizard is Windows software that gives the user all they need to know about tide height prediction. This includes tables and graphs of tide heights, times and heights of high and low water, and tidal ranges. Underwater and overhead clearance lines can be generated. Results can use UTC or local time, and can be printed or saved to disk. Predictions can be generated from 1900 to 2100, and there is no need to get an update every few years. TideWizard is available in a number of versions covering different areas, including the British Isles, Europe and Worldwide.

TideWizard is available at prices from just £19.53 for the British Isles version, and gives tide height predictions until 2100 without the need for an update. It may be purchased online at www.smartcomsoftware.com, or through leading chandleries.

More information on TideWizard, including the ability to download a demo version, can be obtained from www.smartcomsoftware.com/tidewizard.html.
