You can use bite alarms without a baitrunner reel, you could just loosen the clutch off, but in this way you have to remember to tighten it up when striking. With a bitrunner all you have to do is a quick twist of the reel handle and the clutch engages, which is in my opinion a lot easier, and you all you have to do is flick the switch to turn the baitrunner on.

Well done - sounds like a great session!

Lots of kids are taken fishing at very young ages by dads/uncles/grandads etc.
That doesn't count
How old were you when you first went fishing on your own ?
In my case I was seven - and I made my own gear. Fished either on my own or with one or two mates of the same age or no more than a year older.
My parents were absolutely against fishing.
I started fishing when I was 13 with my friends, and my Dad has never been fishing.

For those who fish the waters around Canterbury, and perhaps a bit further into Kent
Website and Forum
Perhaps we could join forces somehow. I run a site for Kent Fishing, I could put a link to your site and you could put a link to to the Kent Fishing site.

Do you need a certain number of posts to use the signature function or is it just me? :S

A bunch of teenagers throwing rocks at me and my friends from across the lake like what happened last time I went night fishing.

Some pellets are quite cheap. You can buy a 10kg bucket of pellets HERE for around £15.

Hey
I come from Medway in Kent and mostly fish the waters around there. My favourite local water is Chequer Tree Fishery. I mostly go carp fishing but I also enjoy float fishing for silverfish.
I am also a member on FishingMagic but this forum seems to be more active. I also recently started a new site for Kent Fishing (http://kentfishing.webs.com)

I saw an angler in Total Carp using one of these. He seemed to think it was very helpful, and even said it was an essential bit of kit!
