  1. Ive been on the waiting list for over 18 months and a position has opened due to a member not renewing. For a season ticket its £185 per season. For me thats quite a price but as i live 3 miles away I will be there as much as possible.

Worth the money imo, im abit old school with fishing, I love dense overgrown with reedy lakes alive with nature. Not much of a fan of these open carp lakes. So hopefuly this bowood house lakes and estate will be as good as I hope.

  2. I have the opportunity to fish at lake in wiltshire. Only 50 tickets are available per season (July - March). Has anyone fished the lakes at bowood house?

Any info on types of fish, weight and baits etc would be very helpful.

  3. I am looking for a lightweight match rod. Used souly for float fishing. 2lb main line. Catching silverfish with the odd 2-4lb bream/tench/perch. Length around 12 & 13ft.

Can anyone recommend a good lighweight, well balanced rod? Ive looked at shakespear mach 3 and others along similar slim, lightweight designs.

  4. I have caught most of my Tench on my drennan series 7 13ft competition feeder. And on that rod the 3 tip options are 1oz, 2oz & 3oz. All in different colours. I usualy use the lightest tip, the green 1oz, and with this tip i caught a 5lb tench using 3lb line. Both the rod and tip performed great, I had my reel clutch set up just right and set about playing the fish for 5-10 mins.

Like previously mentioned, if you want to throw out bigger rigs or bait use the higher test curve tip. It will throw them out better and also be less stressful for the rod.

Interms of the biggest fish on the series 7, I landed a 13lb common carp with my 3oz tip on 4lb line, played the fish for abit, coped with it easy.

  5. What a result  Rudd are one of the species we don't hear a lot about AN, well not at that size anyway.

It was a great catch, had a fue little ones between 6oz and 12oz.

With the biggest Rudd, I was floating 2x red maggots bout 1.5"-2" off the bottom of the canal and it was a float raising bite. At first I thought it was a big roach, but when i saw the deep red fins and bronze scales I new it was a Rudd.

Hope to catch more, I would be happy with 5 or 6 Rudd aroung 1.5lbs in a sitting. Really under rated fish IMO, they look great!

  6. I will be looking to get new PB on most fish species. But I really hope to catch a top end 3lbs or 4lb Perch & Roach near 3lbs that some people have had out of the Kennet and Avon Canel.

    So In Specimen Order:

    Perch

    Roach

    Rudd

    Tench

    Dace

    Chub

    Fingers crossed.

Infact just last week I beat my previous record of 1lb 10oz perch and I neted a: 1lb-12oz & 2lb-5oz perch. And I also caught several Rudd the biggest weighing in at 2lb 10oz.

Not the biggest fish ever seen but they were a fine, clean, healthy and fun to catch examples.

  7. For me the most consistent bait has been Sweetcorn. One grain on a stick float. 2&3 grains have worked well on hair rig, feeder rigs & ledgers.

Hell I useualy get a fue carp on maggot cocktail from most venues.

  8. Thinking of actually weighing the odd fish this year and after a compact set of scales. Only proviso is price as I don't like expensive gear 'cause I'm cackhanded. Can I get a reasonable set under £20?

Recommendations would be great, regardless of price/size as nothing is set in stone yet.

I bought a set from my local fishing shop, nothing special, Its old school scales, with a dial that you can alter the needle position to cancel out the weight of the net or bad holding the fish. Goes up to 15lbs, Fits in the palm of your hand and has a back light for night time. - £10.99. Similar mass produced non brand scales can be found on ebay.

I wighed a fish on these scaled and then we weighed it on a friends Fox 30lb and there was 0.5-1 oz differance so they are reasonably accurate for the money.

  9. From your post am I to assume you are either involved with the company or in the sales of these rods?

No, that section of text about the rod was taken from the Free Spirit web site for anyone else who might be interested in what the Hi-S Special Power Floats was aimed at.

  10. Thanks for that link. I did manage to find it listed in the website but it was quite hard to find.

Hi-'S' Special Power Float - 15' HSS425** - "The Hi-'S' Specialists feature a small water rod ideally suited for chub and roach".

And luckly I didn't pay anthing near the quoted price. Still Ive caught up to 5lbs with the rod and I cant see catching anything over 5-6lbs with 2lb line on.

    Ta for all the advice.

    Forgot the rest:

The Hi-'S' Specialists feature a small water rod ideally suited for chub and roach, whilst the 'Stepped-Up' Specialist will cope with everything from specimen tench, bream and big barbel. The Hi-'S' Special Power Floats are designed with big fish in mind being suitable for chub, barbel and big roach on the river or match carp. The 12' and 13' float rods are designed as two-piece since we believe the action flows better through the blank and the power transmission is smoother, whilst the 15' is a three-piece.

  11. Hi Terracan Jas

    Welcome to Anglers Net.

This is the Free Spirit website:-

Unfortunately I can't find a 15' rod on their website under the reference you have given perhaps you would be best to drop them a line.

The trick with all rods is not to use a line greater then is recommended for the rod, that way you stay within the safety levels for the rod.

Just guessing I would not expect a 15' rod to take a line over 6lb breaking strain safely.

Thanks for that link. I did manage to find it listed in the website but it was quite hard to find.

  12. Thanks for the quick reply and good info. For my needs its a very useful rod. I use quite Light tackle as mentioned and im generaly a very patient fisherman.

This is my 1st float/match rod over 13ft and I find it being 15ft very usefull, especialy on canals. Offering more contol of the fish and due to the lenght you can just flick your float out instead of casting.

Ive found the end section of the rod (6-8inches) to be very soft & flexible, which I think is great as it doesn't rip the hook out of the small fishs mouth when striking. The other 3/4 of the rod is more stronger. Mellow Progression is a good way of looking at it.

The only bad point about the rod is, its carry case. What a useless design, offering no protection at all.

  13. Ive owned a Free Spirit rod for the last 6 months and its great, looks fab and is very well built and balanced. Ive caught lots of silverfish on it, up to 2lb perch and 6lb tench. I fish for perch, roach, rudd and tench and its performed great.

My question is, what would be the biggest fish i could catch on it? Its unlikely I will get much bigger than 5lb but im just curious as to the rods stated limit as I never inquired.

The rod is a 15ft Free Spirit Hi-S Special power float.

    Any Info would be great.

  14. Hi all,

Im Jason, 21, been coarse fishing since 4. Caught everything from gudgeon to golden tench to grass carp.

Im more of a pleasure and specimin fisherman. My Favorite fish are Perch, Tench, Rudd.

I fish with light gear, match rods or ledger. Mostly using waggler & insert floats, 2-3lb line and 22-14 size hooks depending on time of season and bait size and the occasional feeders or ledger.

Mostly useing maggot, worm and sweet corn as baits.

Ive fished Lakes for the past 15 years but over the past 2 years Ive been fishing canals and the quality and size of my favorite fish have been very good, so Im hooked.

Hopefuly pick up a fue things on this forum and offer a fue ideas or help.
