A pike that exceeds or hits the 20 kilo level is a stunning pike. A specimenfish that, among others, will be noticed in all of fishing Europe. Therefore it will be examined, admired and debated, by all rihgts. Especially when photos are published... I mean no harm or disrespect by questioning its weight, the length seems correct, but I am sorry, theese pictures does not make it easy to believe that it is a pike that weighs 20 kilos. Thats all I´m going to say. If I´m wrong I will be most happy, if I´m rihgt I will be very sorry. Once again, a lovely fish, Well done either way...

Illegal in the UK, I'm afraid.
Ah, thats to bad, sorts out the small fish and is very attractive for perch from 0,5 kilos and up... Why is this prohibited? Even dead crayfish?
-
Well done hoppy, a magnificent fish!
Excuse the bad manners of the english here who wish to put a dampener on your catch.......very bad form IMO.
You havent included me, im swedish.... I agree with Argyll and i still believe that there might have been a mistake in scales, an unfortunate mix up between kilos and pounds. Btw, the fish is magnificent either way.
-
With all due respect, could there be a mistake made by using the wrong scale? A pike that is 115 cm and not abnormally fat is more likely to weigh aprroximately 10-13 kilos... and the pics support thsi weight i think. But, a lovely pike, well done...

Crayfish are wonderful to eat, I usually boil them i salted water with half an onion and lots of dill (is thar the right word) and one piece of sugar. Tastes like heaven. A beer and a snaps is also needed to make the meal complete. But, crayfish is also anabolicfood for big perch... have you tried to use crayfish as bait? If not do so... and you will have a nice suprise...

Yes, flyfishing for perch is great fun... I havent explored it enough yet but i will....

Spinners are fantastic perch attractors but are seldom efficient for big perch. Strange but true, at least from my own experience... Perhaps because small perch often are more aggressive, uncritical and moves faster than the big ones, who also are fewer. I think that the tactics for big perch is not so unlike the ones for pike. Big bait, big fish. As all predators perch aim for as much food as possible by using as little energy as possible. Therefore the ideal dinner is a big bait that also appears to be woundes and easy to catch... a big topwater lure or a wobbler. Dont be afraid to use bait that is longer than 20 cm. The same rule applys for jigs. This is a sure way to catch more big perch but you dont get as many...

Zander can be a bit tricky... In may and june during spawning they are quite easy to catch. Males are watching their ofspring until it leaves the spawningplaces, they are very aggresive and even attack big pike. I once saw a photo of a diver who got bit, came to close to the "nest". At this time they can be caught on almost everything. Jiggs, wobblers, live-deadbait and so on... Be careful though, sometimes it is better to let the fish reproduce an be let alone. Later in the summer i find jiggs most effective. Bounce the jigg in the bottom repeatedly. Trolling a wobbler in deep water can also be efficient. It really depends on where the food is, loads of small fish (im not sure of the english names on smallish fish). Afternoons, dawn and sometimes in real darkness are often productive...

Fishing is cruel, livebait is cruel, I love fishing and are willing to be categorized as "cruel" person to have the opportunity to do what I like most of everything... execpt for perhaps a Swedish blonde...:-) BUT, i do respect that people may not be as cruel as I am...

Absolutely, goes without saying, pikefishing without wire is close to irresponsible (is that the correct word?).
-
No, im sure youre right, when the fish is eager there is no problem at all, I have caught big perch on very big jerk/crankbaits when fishing for big pike. But, when the fish is not in the mood, which is quite often, small details as which kind of leader you choose makes a huge difference. Big fish often get big for a reason and it is not only genetic. Big fish often looks twice before eating...

I have many years of experince using fluorcarbon leaders, 0,47 mm fishing for big perch. I absolutely catch more fish with this than my few friends that use metal... This is only when we aim for perch or zander and if the water has big pike i always use metal. I know that danish fishermen are experimenting with this too, almost never lose a lure. This is for fishing with jiggs and topwaterlures, not for live bait.

...no escape then...I´ll see what I can do.

Burbot is as I said very common i Sweden, here is one caught by "mistake" while fisning for Zander... I am very suprised that it has gone extinct in England. I have always thougt of it as a survivor with little demands on its environment but perhaps the Burbot is more sensitive than you think.

Thanks, theese perch eat a lot of crayfish and grow and grow... Sometimes they feed on fish, thats when the use of a surfacelure can result int this...
-
Sweden calling, autumnfishing for perch is fabulous right now, topwater, jigg, everything works...
-
Steve, of course it gets bit of sometimes... I have caught pike when fishing for salmon but I would never use anything than fluorcarbon or regular mono for this fishing and I use the same philosofy when fishing for perch. The biggest pike I have caught using fluorcarbon is about 20 pounds, I was after perch this time too. I know that many people find this controversial but fact remains, I almost never lose a hook to a pike, and I am talking of hundreds, about 20 thsi year. Excuse my spelling, I´m not so used to write the english language... Think I got some words wrong.

Nice fish there Cris... About, snow... We got almost half a meter and -12 celsius right now. Its pretty cold... Winter hit us hard at first stroke this year. Steve, I would just like to tell You that we never use the Zara Spook, the Super Spook is much moore efficient. At first I thought it was to big but I had to change my mind when my comrades started to catch big fish, and many of them too...
-
Newt, You´ve been right all the time... Slalom is a killer...
-
Could not resist adding another summerperch with a Super Spook attached to it... [/img]

Yes, thats right, my intension was to "tie" the communities together so to speak, to promote Peace In the World. Now I have realized that I should have picked another thread, perhaps... Well, anyhow, the intension was good and as Mel Brooks once said, "if You cant laugh about it, it aint worth taking seriously".
