  1. Dont squeeze out all the blood!!!!!!

Gut Black Lug or Yellowtails but leave the blood inside.

Leave on newspaper for about 30 mins to soak up excess water, use kitchen roll to dry as well, freeze as fast as possible. When defrosted for fishing you have an excellent worm, quite firm with plenty fish attracting blood.

  2. Its a real pity, that the people that use most of the RNLI funds dont give to them.

Summer tourists are a nightmare for those brave men, yet most tourists do not even know the RNLI exists.

Tony does a great job on NESA, so did Jaybee before him!

The internet angling sites only exist because of a few dedicated people, many have no idea the time it takes to run a website. All webmasters deserve credit, THANKS TO YOU ALL!

  3. Agree, the up and over is what I use for Rays, usually 4ft snood and size 1/0 Kamasan with Sandeel (fast flowing water in River Mersey). Others will use their own, so best to get a wide opinion as some tactics work better in different areas.

Rememeber, too short a snood and the Ray can hit you rig body or weight with wing/tail (turning onto bait), this will spook the fish, you get a indication of good bite on rod but nothing hooked.

    Good luck

  4. A very under-rated and under used lead the "Pyramid Lead", would like to own a 5oz version myself.

I think some of the England shore team used them in the recent world champs, so someone has a mould or moulds.

Dont know if im allowed to do this but here goes.

As you all probalry know some groups are trying to get fishing banned.

The newest attack is from PETA, using the new disney film 'finding nemo' they are trying to influence kids into not fishing or eating fish.

the story can be found at

If you disagree with this could you all please sign this online petion at

if we want to keep fishing we have to stop this groups and the only way is by sticking together.

  6. For general fishing the Eagle Claw Aberdeens are excellent, caught plenty on them and they will bend from snags. Not suitable for big fish, but great for Whiting, Dabs, Flounder, Dogfish etc.

As H.A. says try UK Hooks, highly recommend getting the catalogue!

  7. Leave Black Lug or Yellowtails in the fridge to mature for Dabs, when the wife asks "whats that smell?" they are ready. Usually about 10 to 14 days is best for Dabs and Whiting. Mix with fresh worm and 3-7 day old worms for a good strong scented Codling bait on a Pennell Rig.

Most anglers dont use search engines enough, write exactly what your looking for, like 'How to keep Black Lug' its surprising what comes up from UK fishing sites.

The truth is out there, precisely where is the mystery! :)

  8. Whats the point of taking fish for trophies, nobody remembers the names of record holders anyway. Dont think anybody cares who has a record except the capture, it means nothing at all in fishing, we all know most big fish were caught luckily with little skill.

All the guys that work UNSELFISHLY for conservation and angling are the real heroes, unlike the victorian minded trophy hunters whom I have no time for at all.

As for South Devon clubs, you cannot blame all the anglers of these clubs for the thoughtless actions of a few!

  9. My personal preference for freezing Black Lug and Yellowtails is simple.

Bang them on their head to get them to gut themselves (pull on guts to get most out), Blacks tend to do this with little help, Yellowtails need persuading. Dont squeeze out the juices, leave them in!

Place on newspaper for 30 mins, changing the paper if it gets moist(this will extract most of the moisture from the worm), then pat dry with kitchen roll.

Roll in newspaper as normal (10 per roll), wrap this in cling film and place at bottom of freezer. Use as needed.

Runnydown is Geordie slang for Frozen Black Lug.

  10. Take care, as the level-wind will restrict the hold you have on the spool. CT cages are designed to get more hold with the thumb, extra power can see the spool pulled from the thumb grip with a level-wind (not enough grip). Results can be very dangerous, only total control will help keep casting safe.

Dont go for maximum power if you cant control the reel!

  11. You answered your own question, its the level wind causing the problem.

Buy a reel with a CT cage, dont cut off the level wind its not worth it unless you have the proper conversion kit.
