  1. IM DISLEXIC WINTER, SORRY IF THIS OFENDS YOU KENT ANGLER. SPELL CHECK DOES NOT WORK HEAR.
  2. its not just tackle, you . belive one way or anouther a fishing reverlution is begining, carp anglers fed up with catching fish with names are coming over to bass. Carp fishing is worth more to UK PLC than Golf so be warned.
  3. would any one be interested in a bit of my knollege of collecting crabs.
  4. i know what i read in the angling press is probable not true, but it always seems to be saying that there are countless argumenting in the NFSA. am i wrong in thinking they are a waist of time and in it for thier egoes. i dont objuct to being educated. if they are a good organization may be it would work this lisence thing. As I said before education is the key. To teach new comers and exsisting anglers the basics. Its like collecting bait, if people were tought that if they turn rocks back the right way, not only would they find bait under it today but probably tomurrow to. This may sound a bit petty inthe skale of things but i would happily spend 30 quid a year to teach anglers that so when i go crabbing the sea walle and fore shore is not ruened buy rotting weed.
  5. To catch a bass a angler needs to buy a rod, a reel, termanal tackle, line, bait, he needs to drive to his mark, he buys fual for his car, he maybe buys books magazines, uses and pays for his internate conection to further his knollege on bass. He could chose to pay a charter skipper to take him boat fishing for bass. People collect the bait, they sellit to the bass angler, the rod and reel were manufactured sold to the wholesaler then to the tackle shop, all who ernt money from the bass angler. This list can be added to almost endlessly so to reach 100 million quid would be a dodle.
  6. EASY NOW this is a friendly site yer!
  7. Well done winter, that seems like a good evenings fishing to me, this end a 5lb cod from the shore is like finding hens teeth.
  8. I so sorry, as i have only just found this site i am just cramming my thought onto you guys. i supose i should of thought that the lisence debate has been done to death. on the other hand we are hear to keep descussing.
  9. i beat my pb with a six an six and three quarters from the top at burnham marina. Dads fish was smashing on fly from stansgate.
  10. A lot of anglers including my self see this as nothing more than a extra stelth tax. I would happily pay say 30 quid a year for a lisence if I felt it was to be used to benifit anglers. It could be used to educate anglers on so many things getting our house ship shape and bristol fashon.Setting up angling schools in each county. These could teach anglers the basics , how to un hook fish properly, how to collect bait propperly However I do not feel our present govement would spend it wisely and it would go into thier ever growing tax pot.I dont think our govement would use our money to help protect our fisheries. Is there a way of lisencing our selves cutting out the govement and E/A.
  11. Hello leon,, So you know my father?
  12. The 4 boxes wasnt every night of the year, just the best night i was told about.these people rig up a light to atract bait fish then fish live bait under the light. There is 14lb to a stone, 7 stone per box, say the fish average 2lb around 49 fish per box, four boxes thats around 200 bass, if four people are fishing this isnt beyond the relms of possabillity. I have witnessed over 100 rod caught sizable bass from a boat.
  13. This happens in all our areas i feel. I know at bradwell a long time ago the local got so fed up with people reaping all the local peeler crabs that lots of bottles were broken and scattered over the area. I witnessed 5 people last year working from the low water mark to the hight water mark like a machine just throwing rocks everywhere.A few weeks later the mark stank off rotten rack weed and was ruened for anouthe five years.
  14. Thats life mate, you go to all the effot of putting slabs, tyres and tiles ect and other people gain. I do take crabs from others trap as they do from mine. I find this sometimes helps keep the traps working as if not checked every few days they often silt up allowing no room for the crabs.I also know who the traps were set by and I add more traps myself.
  15. DEFRA COULDNT MANAGE A PISSUP IN A BREWARY MATE. leon I never moan about catching bass mate even when small. But it would be cool to catch a propper cod or two again
  16. Again substainability is the key. I use around ten diferent marks, working the weed, pools and under things like rocks. We put slabs out with a small rock under one end to keep it raised, if worked sesiblely (excuse my spelling I think I may be direxlicadd) a combanation of methods and marks can keep your fridge stocked.Working the pontoons at night with a torch can also work well.
  17. Yes winter things aint how they were, and I agree this is mainly due to over fishing and very bad management. I also thoroughly enjoi rock fishing mate. I often holliday in Cornwell, last year in Irland. I find wrass fishing great fun, they fight so hard and are very pritty fish. I dont dout any one on this sites anglingt abilities as you guys all seem inteligent thinking anglers. I am strugling to catch codling this year, I caught plenty from my 16 foot dingy but my prop fell off last trip so Iv been fishing the Crouch from the shore all i keep catching are 2002 size bass.
  18. Whats the crabbing like in your arear Steve? I would be happy to help educate any one on basic do and donts of crab collecting. If you struggle I could show you some good marks in my neck of the woods.
  19. Steve the white weeders use rakes to harvist the white weed that is then dyed greed foor the florest indestry, these rakes will not catch many crabs. The trawled crabs in my arear are ither a by catch or targeted in the shallow creeks with fin meshed trawles. Also collectors arnt blamless. Many of my favorite crabbing marks get cleared of crab by collectors from othe arears, they dont give a toss if there are now crabs there tomurrow so the dont turn the rocks back. This rotts the weed and stinks of rotten eggs. This is a major problem in my area.Carefull crabbing, turning rocks back the way they were found is very pleasurable, especially when crabs can cost up to 1 quid each.
  20. yes point taken Davy, I was a mear 5 year old when my father caught 99 bass on his charter boat all over eight pounds in 2 hour from the once famous Kentish Knock. As a kid I could knock out 15 to 30 cod on my own from the bow of my dads boat, I caught two 3lb cod last season. But I still stand by my statement that you have to put the effort in to lern your water craft, chuck it and chance it doesnt work that often nowdays.
  21. noy sugesting this is why any one on hear blanks, i blanked the day before yesterday.
  22. A lot of anglers just think that because they blank a commercial fisherman must have taken all thier fish. The reasons a lot of anglers dont catch fish isnt because theres no fish. Iv fished spots close to my home next to 10 anglers catsting 5oz leads to the horizon with 30lb line moaning about the ruddy gill netters. Ive come along with my carp rod 8lb line and banged four fish out in half hour. Its knowing how where, when and what bait that will help.
  23. i wasnt condoning trawling, i think its a terrible way of fishing. Gill netts fished restrictivly with larger meshes to let the fish mature, with less people doing itI feel is better than trawling. I think you would be suprised how many anglers sell thier fish, on Southend pier at night under lights iv heard reports of 4 to five boxes a night at times. these fish are all sold to resterants.the boxes are 7 stone boxes. this is one spot, it happens all over the country.
  24. I can remember a time when a lot of people were longing for the day that bass farming became populer. They belived that thier sport fish would be saved. Well now that time is hear! and the afect of these fish on its wild counterparts has been dramatic. In 1995 a commercial fisherman could expect up to four quid a pound for bass, now hes luck to get 1.5 per pound due to compeating with farmed fish. So the commercial fisherman has no choise but to work harder to catch more bass putting a hell of a lot more pressure on the wild bass. To a slightly smaller degree the same thing happens when anglers sell thier bass privatly. The afect anglers selling thier fish is making on the market can be seen at billingsgate where Im told netted bass are sold as rod caught as it sugests freshness and a kind of trendy organic thing. Lots to concider in managing our fisheries I hope we get claver very quickly.
  25. HAS EVERY BOBY gone to bed, or are they like me stuffed with sausage rolls n mince pies oh yes and a bit tidly
