  1. A whip is really designed for fishing to hand, so if it is 5m long your rig shoud be about 4.5m - 5m long, you can generally fish anywhere with it. I would only use a whip for catching silver fish.

The Carpology Pro is a out and out bagging pole for large fish, allways gives me pleasure to get a lump from the margins.

Sorry to sound obtuse but at only 3m-5m long where exactly are you supposed to fish a whip of that length ?

Certainly look nice from the SPRO product catalogue. Are they suitable for all round match/course/pleasure fishing ?

  2. They are designed for different types of fishing, I would NEVER tell somebody to use a telescopic whip to fish the margins, It is NOT designed to do that. Its all about the design limitations of the product, not a marketing term !!!

Which one could argue makes it a just a marketing term.
Do you have a margin pole you'd recommend then ?
Spro Carpology Pro, 9.5m long comes with a spare top 4.
  3. .

No need for me to search the forum, I sell tackle to the trade for a living.

I must say I've never seen a pole described without elastic rating. But then pole/whip fishing is new to me.

The fact that most whips can also be elasticated was the reason I assumed the terms were almost interchangeable.

If you search the forum you certainly find mention of take-a-part whips and conversely telescopic poles.

  4. rarepleasures.

Not allways as stated on that page.

I could show you a margin pole that is fished without elastic, super strong.

I can also show you whips that have elastic fitted.

Thats not how I understand it.

Difference between a pole and a whip

    QUOTE

A pole is fitted with an internal elastic which cushions the fight of the fish, whereas with a whip there is no elastic and the rig is simply attached to the fine tip.

Whips are usually telescopic with maybe one or two 'put over' sections at the butt end, whereas poles usually have a telescopic top two or three.. sections into which the elastic goes, with the rest being 'put-over' sections. Poles are generally 10 metres long or more, whereas whips are generally seven metres long or less.

  5. Take apart = pole

    Telescopic = whip

Whips and margin poles seem to be interchangeable terms. I was using the Middy Power Carp Ready to Fish Whip (which seems to be exactly the same as the Middy Impact Margin Pole) and I was using the red elastic

Sorry by margins I meant the length of the pole so between 3 - 5m out

  6. rarepleasures.

Is it a whip you have ? I would not use it for fishing the margins as it is telescopic. My margin poles have nothing less tan a 16 elastic in. Try to strike towards the snags when the fish take the bait, they will then go in the opposite direction to the snag.

  7. Garbolino distribute themselves, I would find a local shop that stocks it and get them to ask their Garbolino rep.

Sent you a PM with a email address.

I'm looking for the UK distributor of Gabrolino, was wondering if anyone knows a web address or telephone number?

Specifically I'm after a Gabrolino David Dubriel Resurrection Spinning Rod 2.4m, its a rod designed for the French market but I was hoping someone who deals with them might be able to get hold of one.

    Thanks in advance!

  8. Well they changed it and added "The rest have to be thrown back."

Yup not the real facts again.

Newt,he's refering to the fact that here in the UK different areas/fisheries allow different numbers and sizes of fish to be killed and taken.

The real worry for me though is that the Beeb has once again mis quoted/mis interpreted/mislead/mi informed. I/we know this as it is in a feild that we are familiar with.BUT how many times do they get it wrong in feilds that I/we arnt knowledgable about and take as the true facts?

  9. I am after a 4-5m boat match rod, for sea fishing. The model that Colmic does is the 'E04 Reporter' telescopic 4m-5m.

A bit rare, these type of rods are only just starting to catch on over here.

    Cheers

    Annwn.

Just had a chat with another Agent, one of the rods may be in the UK, but I will not know untill tomorrow.

    The catalogue number is CARE04.

As soon as I know I will post the info, you will have to do it mail order though.

    Hope that helps.

    John
