I think that in a natural river system they could be disasterous to prey fish stocks but in an enclosed newly stocked pool they would be o.k, due to it being a newly stocked pool they would have always been there and so would not interfere with any sort of old eco system, as there would not have been an old system as there is in the rivers.

Or the big pike could start to eat all the smaller catfish thus improving the pike population.
Just an idea, not a proven fact or anything so dont jump down my throat.

You could use a ledger setup with a pva mesh dynamite stick or pva bag, put the hook inside the pva with the freebies, that way the hook bait isnt covered in weed and you get freebies down around your hook aswell.
