  1. Much as Julian says different venues and different times of year dictate what bait I use.

Also same as Julian much of my fishing is stalking at this time of year.I to like a worm but prefer to use it over a hand full of sweetcorn or trout pellets.

My surface fishing is also done with mixer.

When using boillies I use quite large (20mm) ones supplied to me by GB Baits (what ever flavour they are playing with at the time!) Im not fussy as all of their baits have always caught for me.

On easy waters where boillies arnt necesary then its Maize for me or Trout Pellet Paste over Trout Pellets.

If Im fishing a water with only carp in then I like to use maggots.Live on the hook and loads dead for freebies.

Most waters I fish regardless of bait used I put in either hemp or trout pellet as loose feed.

Is it my imagination or has chum mixer got smaller ?

  2. I am thinking of going on my 2nd trip to France this year, Sep\Oct time.

    Anyone interested in joining me?

Will probably go to one of the Millers venues.

Will leave from Portsmouth, room in my estate car.

Venue will be exclusive to us.

    Hi John,

Possibility, but would need to be October for me as my holiday year at work runs from 1st October and have used all up to end of September. Couple of questions, Bait available on site ? Ball park figure for costs ? How many anglers max?

I'm going to france in July but will be fishing mainly rivers and any lakes I can get on through day tickets. Taking the good woman so couldn't get away with an all out fishing holiday :wallbash:

    Cheers,

  3. Just for the record, more people die from mozzie bites in the world , than any other venimus reptiles/ animal bites etc, or get disease from them like Malaria etc, you never know what or who they have bit before they bite you, thus passing on some thing nasty.

Use the mozzie cream and if hot and you are sweating, you can top up after a fews hours with the sachets of mozzie wipes, they do help, jungle formula works ok, from your local chemist, sounds a pain, but can less painfull than a bite or the result of a bite, learnt a lot about the world of mozzie bites through working 10 1/2 thousand feet up in the mountains of Guatemala last August, and No never caught any carp up there, before you ask.

Thanks for the advice Trevor, have had the last of the injections today and all seems to be getting better. So it's back to the banks next week, but unfortunately also back to work!

  4. Evening all,

Thought I would share this, went to a local lake on Tuesday nice day in between the showers and managed to land a couple of decent fish on a short session. Suffered the usual couple of mozzie bites but didn't think too much of that until the next day!

Woke up Wednesday and my arm was like a ballon, red, sore and itchy. Went off down to A&E assuming this was an allergic reaction, they gave me some antibiotics and packed me off.

Next day worse agian the infection having spread down to my fingers and up to my shoulder. Back to the hospital - this time I was kept in over night on IV antibiotics - now released but have to go back for more injections for the next few days.

The condition is called cellulitis (sic) and is a localsised skin infection, I don't know if I could have done much to prevent it - but thought you should know that if something similar happens to you - don't hang about get down to the hospital and get it treated - it doesn't get better on it's own and is potentialy life threatning.

    Cheers

  5. Stick to the rivers would be my advice. They are free - you just need a fishing licence and you can go wherever the urge takes you. There's also some cracking fish in rivers like the seine, saone or loire.

    Rob.

    Thanks Rob,

Sounds like good advice. Will report back in due course.

  6. Evening all,

I am hoping to take a touring/camping holiday with my non fishing (as yet!) partner, holiday in France in July. Just wondering if any one was aware of any decent day ticket waters - somehwere between a runs and and a challenge where it might be possible just to book a couple of days to bivvy up.

All I've managed to find so far is gross family holiday parcs with a pond or week at a time places.

Not sure of the route yet but obviously starting in the north and possibly heading towards the Loire & Centre.

    All help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

P.s anyone fished Bughfield Blue Lakes ? going next week - try and get the good lady in the habit !!!

  7. Anthony,

Thanks for your initial response, apologies for not responding earlier been away from the pc. I'm in a more fortunate position than ant(78) in that the section of canal I will be targeting see's almost no boat traffic at all it being a loop. Which is handy as I wouldn't fancy night fishing there - rough area!

What I was curious about was, as I mentioned previously no one's going for them so they may not have even a boilie. Any thoughts on how long it would take to establish a bait? What size baits are you using?

    Cheers

  8. Evening all,

Went for a wander down the local cut today having recently moved and this being my most accesible strech of water. Pleased to report seeing what I guess was a mid double and having chatted to the match boys down there, there were plently of reports of them getting smashed up even on what they refer to as heavy gear.Further encouraged by the fact that by all accounts nobody is targeting these fish.

Now I've never been a fan of fishing canals in fact I havent for over 25 years (how old?!). So the question is anybody got any thoughts, advice, experience of canal carping?
