  1. Just out of interest how far up the rod does the reel go when casting reel down? Im tempted to try the reel down the rod but im not sure how ill get on with the reducer for reeling in whilst on the rocks....it seems like another thing to worry about where it is :P Im terrible for losing stuff while fishing

  2. Id like to be able to cast further....... If im standing on the promenade with plenty of room I can bang it a good distance OTG.....Un fortunately most marks I fish involve using rotten bottom links and the rocky platforms arent really suited to OTG casting si i have to resort to my back up cast which is a badly performed overhead thump which usually results in a 70yd plop if Im lucky. It doesnt seem to matter how long I spend on the beach slinging lead after lead in practising when it comes to tieing a bait on in and actually fishing I screw it up time after time :P This summer I intend on lots of practice when its warmer......Hands get so cold this time of year casting time and time again :P

  3. Ive found that if i use a snood longer than the rig body it tangles all round the rig often tying itself in knots.......I am always amazed how the snood can tie itself in knots around the rig

  4. Hello all,

I'm thinking of selling my sea gear and would appreciate some advice on the price I can expect for it.

    It consists of :

    1 x Abu 6500 Mag Elite

    1 x Daiwa Slosh 30

    1 x Daiwa TDXS 129PM

    1 x Greys Nor-easter (used once only).

    1 x Oddpod rod-rest.

1 x Shakespeare box with breakaway back.

All in good condition and reels will be serviced.

    Thanks guys.

    Steve.

I might be interested in the slosh 30 :P

  5. Winter, it really is good you should make your way up here, winter is best for the cod but like I say in the summer the other species really kick off. i'll be glad to do a bit of gillying for you!

    Matt

    Whats gillying????

  6. Part of the fun of beach fishing is braving the weather :whistling: I refuse to set up in pouring rain but if it starts raining at some point after setting up I stick it out until the water reaches my pants :cold: at that point it is time to retire gracefully :D:D

Im with Ken on this one :P......... Id feel a little camp, excuse the pun, setting up a little tent to fish from :P

  7. Third that bout the Slosh!

The 30 is a fantastic boat reel that is at its best uptiding and pollocking but it will handle wrecking as well if you set the drag right

How do you set the drag "right" for wrecking..... I usually just wang it on as hard as it will go :P

  8. Been out fishing since about 5 pm. Not a bite but it was well worth the effort as I saw the most beautifull thing. THe cliff face was covered in Iceicles about 3 foot long. Absolutely thousands of them as far down the coast as you could see. Wished I'd had a camera to share it with you.

Nowt doingdown Jacksons Bay tonight either.....didnt seem cold really till about 11 ish then it got bitter and we packed up and left :P

  9. MAnaged to get from A to B yesterday but just couldnt manage the B to A bit walked for an hour before getting a lift off a man with a van. Snowing a blizzard again here. Hope I dont get stuck tonight.

Ill never be as die hard as you 2 :P I pondered going fishing for about 2 nanoseconds......decided on the offer of a game of poker instead :P

  10. Dual speed ?? you got me thinking now. Sure it wasnt a black 9000? If it was snap the guys hand off.

Im sure it wasnt a 9000 i thought it was a 7000 might have been a 7500 though but im fairly certain it was a 7000 im gonna go have another look tomorrow

  11. There was no level wind on it :P I didnt note the model number....wish I had now :P I have a 525 which I am using currently its just it doesnt hold that much line at 30lb and as my casting skill is increasing there is less and less left on the spool esp if I cast in and then walk back any great distance to my rest/standing position which is sometimes 20 yds or more. I darent tell the wife I want to spend another £100 on a reel in order to buy the 535 :P and to be honest I still struggle with mid cast over runs a fair bit on the Penn which I never see on my 6500 ct elite. Im not saying anything bad about the Penn I have no doubt its an excellent reel and the retrieve is awesome it just doesnt seem to suit my casting style :P which is a little prehistoric id be the first to admit

I think Im gonna struggle on with the 525 for a bit anyways maybe even drop to 25 lb line and start using a leader again

  12. The wind seems to have dropped a bit down here (P/boro) although its real brass monkeys. a few of the weather reports seem to suggest a westerly on sat. Is it a big sea at the mo and would anyone care to forcast which day might fish. I wouldnt ask but the missus wants me to attend a family meal and it would help to pick my excuse in advance!! Not that shes the boss or anything!!!

    Lol

Massive sea right now here at Scarborough must be 12ft+ swell....... waves are crashing over the Marine Drive looks unfishable to me but does tend to calm down a bit as the tide ebbs. And its freezing esp in the wind. It will be a brave soul who is fishing tonight :P

Maybe Spragg the old sea dog will give you the benefit of his wisdom if he can tear himself away from his almanack :P

  13. just tried it.....seems like a good strong knot.....I'll let you know how it performs in the field as it were :P I rarely bother with a leader to be honest as I use 30lb line straight through most spots I fish as I dont use a power cast and usually just a lob of 100yds or less is as far as I go
