  1. What a surprise, wurzel and steve will be happy i am sure as well as the nffo and its members, the commercials may have won this battle but the war against the over exploitation of immature inshore fish species will continue for sure, personally after years of writing numerous letters and campaigning in my own way, i will put a hold on anything i do until the next general election date is set or there abouts, as i think its a complete waste of time and money trying to convince this present shower of s*** of a mcgovernment to act in any way to improve the inshore quality of sea angling around englands shores. until jughead brown and his coleagues are removed and sent packing back across hadrians wall i see nothing changing, i believe niel kinnock said something about grinding the bastards into the dust at there party conference, did he mean the conservatives or our english fish stocks?

  2. A reminder Sir, as you contemplate your imminent decision about bass MINIMUM SIZE LIMITS (MLSs).

Your predecessor had this to say just over a year ago and then 'bottled it' a week or two before confirming the Statutory Instrument -

FISHING - Minister makes right decision

From the archive, first published Tuesday 22nd Aug 2006.

Minister Ben Bradshaw dictating that the minimum landing size of bass is to be raised from 36cm to 40cm on April 6 next year has received a mixed review by sea anglers.

Many RSAs had been hoping for a far higher figure while others have welcomed the news and will continue lobbying for further increase in future years.

So what's it to be Mr Shaw?

    <_<

Its pretty obvious like cornishman says! f**k all

  3. Actually if it was legal size and the angler wanted it for the table then it didn't have to go back. If you feel the need to preach to other anglers try the conservation and politics forum.

Sorry stoaty i forgot, this part of the forum does'nt give a s**t about conservation, apologies leon..........

  4. I was out Sunday on the Barrows.

Despite moving a couple of times, and with a variety of baits (peeler, herring, rag and squid - oh! and mackerel feathers) out of 6 anglers (and a few more rods), only 4 small fish came aboard, a small codling, a doggie and a largish pout which all went back; and a smallish roker which was kept.

Change to very bright conditions might have put the fish off the feed, as well as the substantial amount of freshwater that has hit the estuary recently.

Lots of other angling boats out, but there wasn't much about catches on other boats coming in over the radio)

(Guess who had the pouting? :( )

hi leon, why was the small roker killed?

  5. According to the BBC News site the Yangtse river dolphin has the dubious distinction of being the first large mammal to become extinct for fifty years.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6935343.stm

According to scientists who failed to find a single specimen

So, it seems commercial fishermen CAN drive a species to extinction after all; and a cute cuddly looking species at that, not some cold scaly fish. I'm sure I've read on here that this is an impossibility.

    Well i never!

  6. Hi challenge

The british commercial fishing industry over the years have taken the **** out of quota's and laws as much as any other eu fishermen imo but unlike say the french when it comes to sticking up and being pro active for itself! it has been spineless, and that is one of the reasons why most of it has gone to the wall matey, instead of bleeting on at politicians and being allowed to be pushed on to the beaches to trawl the f**k out of them why dont they show some balls and blocade a few ports! who knows they just might gain a little respect and a bit of support from anglers? cheers............

  7. There are mullet that size if not even bigger in my local marina and guess what? yes strictly NO FISHING allowed what so ever  they compete for the bread with the swans which are in plague proportions which is half the reason why they dont like you fishing, plus those snobby paper only well off yacht owners dont want you any where near their pride and joy, knobheads.............

  8. Yep just looks like a few dolphins having fun dont it, mako's are imo more likely to make an appearance off our beaches, maybe some sightings are these fellows? anyway if such an event like a shark attack were to happen it would certainly do the seaside resorts a good turn! with there being no summer this year......

  9. FWIW to all on this forum the fishing is most deffinitely crap here and has been, and will continue to be for the future!! thats why i couldnt give a toss what happens from now on anymore in the salt side of things regards angling.

ps i bought my freshwater license and i must say what exceptional value you get in return ie, fish to catch :clap2: cant say the same about a sea license (not from here anyway) still every other part of the country wont mind as it seams its teeming with fish good luck chaps..........

  10. Many thanks for the link. i haven't found out how old this is but it is exactly how this other skipper had described the situation, also the amount of fines involved must reflect how serious the situation can be, but somehow i don't think these guys give a hoot as they have been caught before.

The skipper had told me that they found where they breed, so to me this is blatant theft of our stock, commercial and rsa should not condone this action. I think the courts aught to do three strikes and your out, take the boats away from them.

I agree with you barry 100% mate, conservation is a word most certainly not invented by commercial fishermen thats for sure, cheers............

  11. Again many thanks for the info Leon. Slightly off topic, i dont know if my local sfc can help in the two items that i have as an boat angler at the top end of the channel. The two in question of interest are: i made an off the cuff remark to a skipper who has been around for a minimum of thirty five years, i asked why there is no real amount of black bream showing at the top end of the channel. His reply was that he has friends in the haulage industry who at a certain time of the year do nothing more than transport black bream to france. This is when they shoel up to breed. He has told me that it is load after load. Seeing that this is a non quota fish it is of a concern.

The second is the varne bank. as we are aware the channel at that point is just over twenty miles. Obviously the bank is outside of the sfc six mile limmit. However i am aware that the french commercial industry have a minimum of sixty % quota for the cod in the channel. I also understand that the uk does or used to have the largest fleet so, this to me does not sound right or fair, does anyone know the reason why they have so much quota. As soon as the codling start showing any improvement, they are then hooverd up and we are left in the same position as allways, i.e. no cod but codling of no real significance.

    alright, three.

As and when this bloody defra interference comes in, they are supposedly trying to give the sfc's more power, control etc, who will control the rsa outside of the six mile limit and does control revert back to the sfc when say an angling boat returns within the six mile?

    Hi barry

Have a read of this nick by the local sfc, its a drop in the ocean as we all know but it gives you some idea as to where the bream are dissapearing! i have seen this going on all the time over the years and other just has distructive practices, people like steve g might be able to shed some more light on it? cheers....

  12. Other things aside Stavey - What difference did it make ? The current research states there is even more fish up here a year on. 70 stone of cod is nothing mate - a drop in the ocean. More goes back dead in a few minutes in undersized discards. I think you should stop worrying about anglers and target the real enemy. Like you did in you golden mile post.

Fair enough glen, i did state it was going over old ground and i will leave it at that now, cheers.............

  14. Contacting anglers is the biggest problem.

I meet and fish with a chap called Dave, a great lad but totally oblivious to what is going on, no computer and with nothing in the national news he is out on a limb.

He is very typical of a large number of RSAs and I fear their voices will never be heard.

Because of this they have to rely on those who represent RSAs and angling as a whole.

    Hi ken

Getting the word out to sea anglers i found quite easy in my neck of the woods, getting those anglers to be arsed to do anything is another, there are plenty of dave's ken and i think its very easy to make excuses for them, when it comes down to it most of these guys are just plain lazy imo, so when they get slapped to pay for a sea license they have only themselves to blame and no one else as far as i am concerned, and they will pay it! all typically english dont you think? cheers..................

  15. Its done i dont really want to repeat what i sent but what i did say was the people who put this crazy idea in your heads dont reresent the majority of anglers throughout the uk and thats a fact.

Hi big cod not having a go but, the whole majority of sea anglers dont all live in the north east!! or even care to fish their even if they live elsewhere, so i think you need to check your facts a little more carefully me thinks, but i do agree with you that no angler wants to pay more money then they have to already for nothing in return thats for sure including myself, i will clearly state now that if a license comes in without any worthwhile measures? then it is realy going to be finito for me and sea angling, i will just stick to my little private lake which i police myself with a rod of iron and god help any poachers or illegal immigrants who thinks they can help themselves to a free dinner :black_eye::hammer: cheers.............

  16. I have sent in my comments, they would not suit all concerned so it is up to the rest to state their opinions.:D

    Likewise done here ken.

  17. Hi Thanks for that John, us guys on the south coast are fortunate that we do have a great diversity of fish to target,

Hi barry, what part of the south coast are you? coz as sure as hell we dont have any fish!! let alone any diversity that you are on about on my part of the south coast..............

  18. It is never wasted mate, I back it 100% as the easiest way for the powers that be to demonstrate that they a} care about the environment and b} are prepared to give something back in return for a license.

There is more activity on this forum than you think mate, it just takes a worth while statement like yours to get them thinking.

Hi ken thanks, i just dont think the golden mile has, or is being promoted enough, i did hear something about it being dropped from the inshore working groups agenda but i dont know for sure if it has or not? if it is allowed to be dropped then i think it will be a huge mistake made by all for sure, cheers..............

  19. As far as i am concerned there is nothing more important to the shore angler than this golden mile proposal/idea, all i seam to hear about on this forum is boat angling this and boat angling that, probably because most of these threads are written up by people who have a vested interest in it suppose?

Like a large majority of the rsa in this country i am 99% shore based and cant afford or even warrant the price of a days angling afloat, this is not an assumption its a fact!! and if there is to be any sort of future for our kids and grand kids in rsa? then things have got be sorted off our beaches and popular shore marks like piers etc first!! and foremost!! these are the areas that most people start from in this hobby, i know i did!!

So i am appealing to every org to make the golden mile the top of there agenda and every shore based rsa to do the same, i have run a few fish ins for the youngsters over the years and none of these kids took up the hobby after (as far as i know) i guess i cant blame them as most of these were very poor as far as results go, NO!! not down to my lack of angling know how commecial boys!! but more down to the overall management of our inshore waters, especially the sfc's!! imo

Is this sort of post wasted on here i wonder ? (especially tucked away in a corner of a forum were the moderaters seam to think is more appropriate rather then promoted in a part for the majority to see) probably!! but hey its not my site just my opinion, cheers..................
