Where were you fishing at what bait did you use ?
fished a lake with no real name, jus know it as 'the showground', was using small pop-ups.

not meanin to brag or anythin but i managed 4 doubles to 12.06lbs in 3.5 hours sunday afternoon, was well chuffed.
-
are you allowed immitation baits?, if so fake corn or maize is a killer

scoop, iv never seen a carp in the witham, i also live really near it too in Hykeham just south of lincoln. never seen a carp but seen the odd barbel n some good chub. which stretch do you live close to as i know the river fairly well?
as for the trent i havent managed to catch a carp from there as yet although iv heard of carp coming out from all over so i dont think it matters a great deal. look for the slack water this time of year as this is where i believe they hold up (or so im told)

19.12 M
i will get a damned 20

Would the hooklength material make much difference when using long hairs?
i would imagine with braid being supple this would be more ideal than fluros or monos anyone any ideas?
josh are your rigs braided or fluro/mono?

recieved my gift yesterday and so far i am pleased with it, very light weight and versatile, only downside is it has sooo many parts to put together, need to get up an half hour earlier now before goin fishin to allow time to set me pod up.

A strange thing happened to me today while fishing, i was tryin a zig rig with a pop up boilie and gettin liners, followed by a more developed bite, at which i struck and at 1st thought was nothing there, then i made contact and was into a fish. within a few moments of the fight i felt a sensation of the hook slipping and was sure id lost the fish, with a few dissapointed turns of the reel the fight was back on, this really confused me and i assumed the fish was now foul hooked.
after a good 10 minute battle i brought a fine looking fish to the net, and realised that i was actually hooked onto somebody elses lead core and rig, which was firmly inside the fishes mouth. my hook was attacted to the end of the lead core by a strand, a good 2ft from the fishes mouth.
any ideas as to wether my rig simply got snagged in the lead core or if the fish took my zig and the hook slipped? iv never before experienced anything like that. But heres the result, all 18.12lbs.....

thanks rudd, thats given me abit more confidence and with abit of luck the x-lite version will still be good quality.

Thanks polly that is a really generous offer but my dad has already gone and bought me one of the nash ones lol. If it wobbles its self to bits in the 1st few weeks i may seek more advice.
many thanks all the same.

I wouldnt like to comment on wether the pike is the said weight or not, i personally lack experience as my P.B pike is only 17lbs, all i know is all the pics on here are bigger than mine.
As for slodgers 'guess the weight' piccy i would say 18.04 lbs

No such luck for me either, fished a flooded river trent at collingham yesterday for chub and barbel. Raging torrents and debris such as trees and telegraph poles gushing downstream. 6oz of lead was barely holding bottom for any longer than 4 mins. Did manage a small 'tommy ruff' though on my 1st cast.

it does seem strange that you have to own 2 licences to fish 3 rods, £46.
how many anglers out there fishing with 3 rods have 2 licences?
i know i only own one, though i only use 2 rods max at a time anyway.

Benson aint French mate its the biggest common in the country and its in Bluebell lakes
i know that but iv heard many rumours of it being a french carp imported thats all
-
i cant justify buying an expensive one as i said most of my carp fishing is done using banksticks.

Is this the one your talkin about? http://www.bennettsangling.com/acatalog/Nash_Pods.html
i agree it looks nice, not sure how it would square upto uneven ground though, anyone any thoughts?

hi all, i am looking to get a rod pod for xmas, under the £40 mark. i mainly use bank sticks for the majority of my carp fishing but in a few swims at a couple of local venues its nearly impossible to dig banksticks into the ground due to either solid rock, or concreted pegs.
Can anyone suggest a reliable pod suitable for 3 rods thats relatively leight weight and folds up quite nicely with in this price range. preferably not stainless steel (the majortiy of my tackle is black) call me a tackle tart if you must....
thanks in advance

i usually do alot better after xmas, but then again i do generally pike fish more after xmas than before it, in the depths of january/february.
-
i would suggest you buy a tub of pop up boilies probabily fluroescent ones, pineapple is a good flavour.
if you also want some bottom baits i would reccomend something like trigger ice or the source.
good luck for tomoz.

I own 3 x Diawa Regal Z Bite n Run reels, had no problems what so ever they can be found for under £40 a piece, and that includes a free spool, not great for long distance but easily manage 50 - 60 yards out.

harrisons are really good, iv found them to be 100% reliable, tho iv never used the mail order cos the shop is only 10 mins from me

Ok thanks for the advice. I guess the best thing to do is to spend as much time as possible by the water then hopefully i might be there when they do eventually show. From that i might be able to, as julian rightly stated, work out where they may be holding up through out the majority of the colder months.
on my last session i was hoping to rove around a little and as the day progressed i did fancy my chances on the opposite banks, but unfortuantly with the lake only being of around 3-4 acres and with 3 other anglers on the venue this was not possible.
1 of the other anglers did manage a run but lost the fish at the net, so i suppose that gives me some insight as to a swim to try (and i know he was only fishing 2 rod lengths out in about 7ft of water )
With reference to the articles, i have read much of julians work and found it to be most helpful, highly detailed and very informative.

can anyone recomend how to locate carp, during short day sessions when they dont give them selves away by crashing out, no fizzing, bubbling up or any other obvious signs?
spent a whole day today blanking without so much as a nock or liner, didnt see a single fish show tho the conditions were near perfect for this time of year.

I have this coming wednesday and thurs off work and was hoping to do some carping on local gravel pits, but the weathers on the turn and forecast gives 3 - 5 degrees during the day and freezing at night here in lincolnshire.
Does anyone rate my chances?
Are the fish still likely to feed at some point during the day?
Temps for the last 2 weeks have been reaching 8-9 degrees and the winds havent been all that strong.
Not sure of the water temperature as i dont have a thermomiter.
thanks.
