  1. Dave

My views are that it was a green wodpecker from the off, but with the current weather conditions allsorts of vagrants are possible.

It was Gerry's description as rook like that set my imagination running in overdrive.

I had nice views of Lesser Kestrels on Saturday, but not here in Kent

  2. You have also got to take into account that attitudes to fish welfare vary from country to country and are rarely as enlightened as we find here in the UK or the USA.

I have seen German Anglers, on the River Ebro, slaughter Carp over 20lbs for the barbeque and I was in a tackle Shop in Chipiona on in Andalucia on Sunday which had pictures of dead Marlin, Amberjack, Corvina everywhere fish that we would have hoped would be returned.

We need to educate more and criticise less.

  3. It should have a fuji DPS seat which may look like its fitted upside down but is fitted correctly with the screw thread at the top.

You just mount your reel in the seat and tighten up the screw reel fitting and off you go.

Looks like you have got yourself a bargain. :):):)

  4. I reckon its horses for courses, a seat box is nice for floatfishing the commercials and lightweight chairs for stalking the rivers etc.

The answer is to get both a light weight chair and a seat box, I bet both will get used.

  5. I must admit Steve I like using a float rod for perch, most of my biggies have come on float fished small baits like red maggot, but I was thinking of a rod that could do everything reasonably well; live bait, ledger and float fish and and I always found that the JW suited the bill.

  6. Steve are you talking about the original original, black with an abreviated handle or the new original, green with a full cork/duplon handle as I have the latter and have always found it to have the classic avon soft through action, i believe the original original was much stiffer

  7. The call you mention could put it in the woodpecker family could it have been a green viewed from a strange angle.

The North and easterly winds could have brought in some unusual vagrants a Black Woodpecker could be a possibility.

Why dont you give birdline East Anglia a call on 09068 700245 and see if anyone else has reported something in for that area.

Forget their website though it will not be up to date

  8. Ive got to go along with the post about the John Wilson Avons, these would cover all aspects of perch fishing with the exception of lure fishing.

Alternatives would be the similar twin tops that all of the other manufacturers are producing in competition with Masterline.

Indeed, my wife now uses my John Wilson avon Rods and I use the Shimano XT Hyperloop Barbel rod with the three tops, which would also be worth considering.

  9. We have got loads of the white stuff falling here in North Kent at the moment, almost white out conditions.

Most of the roads are impassable as it looks like the Gritters have not been out.

Glad we got rid of the coupe and bought a 4x4.

  10. Ive been there, but did not fish the lake onsite Emerald Pools are nearby at Huntspill and are a better bet even if you have to pay.

The sea angling in the Bristol Channel is pretty good to, perhaps others can advise.

  11. California Coachman the one with yellow rather then red floss in the body, size 14, has worked for me on the River Ebro, never had the guts to try it on the Medway at Sun Pier.

I had my first thick lipped mullet in Cambrils Harbour Spain on Cebos Vivos, which are much like Maddies, Leon has seen the picture.

There are not many mullet around in Spain at the moment just got back from Andalucia and its been snowing.

  12. Though i have not fished it for years you used to be able to catch enormous Launce of the pipe and pretty good mackerel on the right tides. I am sure there would be Bass around too.

You should try to join us down the Warren, at Folkestone having a grand day out blanking on fly gear.
