  2. A gravel pit that I fish operates an all year round pike fishing policy, no one really fishes for them tho!!!

I think that bait fishing for pike should be banned during the summer as pike will take baits quickly and swallow them.

I tend to lure fish for them in the summer, and unless its a fish worthy of weighing and photographing then the fish doesnt really come out of the water, prefering to unhook in the water and letting the fish swim off none the worse.

Then come october I start bait fishing again until around march time. I only pike fish through the winter where as I fish for other species in the summer.

I think that if the angler is competant enough to handle fish then they should be allowed to fish when they want with the methods they want.

  3. I am planning on prebaiting a couple of areas of the River Thames for when the river season opens, with the intention of fishing the weekend of the 18th and 19th.

Firstly my target speices will be Bream, roach, perch, with the possibility of a barbel or two on the stretch im planning to fish.

What would you recommend using to prebait with??? I was thinking, groundbait (not sure what type yet) chopped worm, sweetcorn, hemp, mini pellets.

Hook baits I was going to use, worms, maggot, sweetcorn.

Rigs wise I will be using 2 rods on quiver tip / feeder fishing. 6lb mainline, 3-4lb hooklength and either groundbait feeder / maggot feeder on one and straight lead on the other with maybe a bigger bait for the bigger fish. pellet or large worm or something.

Having never prebaited before, I wanted to make the most of what I do put in, as I cant really afford to waste it. How often should I bait up over the next few weeks?? and how much feed should I put in each time??

Any ideas would be very welcome.

  4. Yeah mine was even cheaper as I won it from a competition in coarse fisherman magazine!! only used it a couple of times but first impressions are quite good.

Another braid I have heard good things about it TFG Grunt, apparently supposed to be excellant, not used it myself tho

  5. I use spiderwire and wychwood braid for all my lure fishing.

I choose not to use braid for general bait fishing as I prefer to use berkley big game mono, as I have 110% faith in it.

  6. jeepster:

i'm getting rid of loads of stuff, today its mainly lures, i have loads of ultralights, rubber wotsits, spinners, rapala plugs, spinnerbaits, creek chub pikies, meadow mouses etc etc.

also a few lure rods, 5' southbend fixed spool rod, 5.5' american multi rod, shimano 9/11 foot exage travel rod, all sorts of stuff so if you're after anything in particular let me know

if you're interested i'll mail u some pics, just let me know (i'm not posting a pic here cos it all goes against eltons bandwith, so let me know what you're after and i''ll mail you)

Hi mate, do you have any pics of the spinnerbaits? Also do you have any surface lures?

If you can send me some pics and prices to tony.stone@blueyonder.co.uk and ill let you know if I want some

  7. I fish all the stretches of the thames that you mention above mate.

It would depend what species you were after, as to where you should fish but as a rule if I want pike I go to Shepperton weir, teddington weir, laleham and chertsey,

    Bream from Shepperton weir

    Barbel from walton on thames

You can have mixed bags of roach perch etc from most parts of the thames. All the thames around hampton court, lalehame, staines, chertsey, teddington, kingston, ham, richmond, sunbury is all free
